(7,515 posts)But this means Cristie gets to appoint a republican to the senate to fill Lautenberg's term. Yuck. More nonsense coming out of the senate...just what the country needs.

(7,515 posts)It would have long term effects. Christie is popular enough in a democratic state to think he can easily appoint a republican to a short term in the senate. I'll be interested in what type of republican he appoints...there are only a very few who are still rational.

(135,425 posts)I hate to be a political animal at this sad time....but what are the rules in Jersey?
They do have a REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR....does he appoint someone from the Democratic party as a temporary replacement in the seat, does he appoint a Republican to give that person a 'leg up' for 2014, or do they go straight to a special election now, followed by another one next year?
I feel bad....I really liked this guy.
