The IRS is part of the Treasury Department...

...and I would wager that every department in the government spends money on conferences and hotel rooms, and events, much like the IRS has been charged with doing?

Furthermore, relatively speaking per size, I would bet that some departments spend more than the IRS. It is the waste that is built into the system.

But Republicans do not like the IRS. They have no problem with Generals flying around in their own personal luxury jets. But that would be the Defense Department, not the IRS.

When they start complaining about $50,000 expenditures, you just know they are up to no good. There is a lot more waste to find if they really want to look for it.

Just my opinion.

They need something to blow off some steam. Usually the hotel where they are staying arranges some entertainment.

The line-dancing film appears to have ten to twelve participants. Not a major event!

We are being swindled by the government class. Whether they are politicians or generals. I'm not talking about low level public servants. They've created laws that benefit themselves and they don't give a shit about the rest of us.

had an off site conference in over five years. All of our conferences have been conducted locally, or via teleconference. And to be frank, we've gotten a lot more accomplished as a result. I've spoken with my counterparts in other agencies and many of them have done the same. The days of big spending on conferences is over. Apparently, the IRS and GSA didn't get the memo.

I do this when I hear large expenditures in the DOD, and every other agency. Not to say it's not needed or justified but I have worked in government for 20 years and trust me, there is a lot of waste.

GSA head resigns over 'wasteful' Las Vegas seminar

GSA Administrator Martha Johnson admitted in a letter of resignation that her agency had made a "significant misstep" and that "taxpayer dollars were squandered."

A GSA Inspector General's report on the 2010 GSA "Western Regions" training conference in Las Vegas shows the government spent more than $822,000 for the 300 attendees, including $75,000 on team building exercises, $6,000 on commemorative coins and $6,000 on canteens, keychains and T-shirts.

Martha Johnson was only appointed in Feb, 2010, and then as "Acting GSA Administrator" She was not confirmed until 2012. The event in Las Vegas occured in 2010. Doubtful she even knew about it until the report came out. As a one time event planner, these events do not happen overnight. Usually sites are selected at least a year in advance. Chances are this one was well in the works when Obama took office in 2009. Not defending the excessive spending of taxpayers $$'s, just saying these are the tactics of the rethugs, blame Obama and his staff for everything.

I'm not a fan of waste but let's look for it in bigger chunks. I have to believe that somewhere, there's a couple billion draining out of the federal coffers into someplace private and all this IRA poutrage is designed to divert your attention from there real "waste".
