Christie will face Buono in November
Incumbents were trouncing Tea Party-backed challengers in primary elections Tuesday night, easily on their way to winning Republican nominations to run for freeholder, sheriff, and the 13th District state Senate and Assembly seats in November.
With more than 92 percent of the vote counted, Sheriff Shaun Golden and Freeholders Thomas Arnone and Serena DiMaso were beating their opponents by a ratio of more than 4-to-1.
In the 13th District races, state Sen. Joseph M. Kyrillos Jr., Assemblywoman Amy Handlin and Assemblyman Declan OScanlon, were besting their challengers by a ratio of better than 3-to-1, with almost 84 percent of the vote counted.
The incumbents, all running on the Monmouth County Republican Committees ticket, were emerging victorious over candidates known as Republicans for Conservative Leadership, which had the backing of the Bayshore Area Tea Party.
