(794 posts)We haven't seen journalism in America for more than 20 years- not because the government destroyed it- The destruction of journalism in America was all part of a greater, over-arching attack on our democratic principles and political cohesion, being carried out by extremist right wing characters like Rupert Mudoch, roger ailes and a host of right wing "think tanks". We've all heard the threats made on our country by teabaggers- "if we can't have our way we will burn the country down"- these are the thoughts, words and actions of a treasonous organization. So the right wing destroys the greatest news media in the world, then complains when the things they call journalism are not given the respect and neutrality only earned by real journalism. If we had a journalist at work uncovering the real news I would be more willing to listen to complaints of government stifling journalism. Until we take action as a country and demand a fairness doctrine to insure the electorate that the "news" media really is doing it's job of speaking truth to power, instead of tittilating, gossiping and manufactured partisan outrage.
When journalists start doing thier job I'll give credence to thier innocence and show them the respect courageous journalists deserve.
But for now it just looks like another excuse for tearing down what's left in America that made us great.
