(30,674 posts)oh yeah--during the 2008 election she described Hillary Clinton as "a monster who would stoop to anything." At the time, I almost agreed with her. Campaigns are passionate affairs.
Needless to say, her request that this remark be kept off the record was ignored, and she apologized soon after. But the damage was done and she did not make it onto Obama's cabinet.
I don't think that should disqualify Power. Hillary said as much herself about Obama during the campaign. And now all is forgiven. Right?

(9,494 posts)I get that her intentions are good. I read her incredible book "A Problem From Hell" when it was first published and in theory I agree with her but....that kind of thinking could get us into an unwinnable war as quickly as the Neo-Con greed can. I am VERY uncomfortable with saving the world with armies.

It's certainly not a Bushian notion of intervention. Libya hasn't been an unending escalation of military involvement; much less some slope into war.
I think, when reading Power's arguments on these individual issues, she represents as more of a concerned, thoughtful, and pro-active intellectual determined to solve important human rights dilemmas; rather than an ideologue with some bent toward reflexive use of military muscle.
