Cory Booker Will Likely Be Running For Senate Against The Biggest Nerd In Congress

U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.) is expected to run in the special election for the Senate seat vacated by the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg, according to multiple reports.

Holt's entrance into the race pits one of Congress' biggest political nerds against likely opponent Cory Booker, who is one of the Democratic Party's most prominent rising stars.

Holt is only the second research physicist to be elected to Congress, and he is also one of two members of Congress to appear on "Jeopardy."

Here's a quick primer of five things you need to know about Holt's background as a scientist and general nerd, and how it has been a facet of his time in Congress:

The Dem primary will most likely be a three-way rase between Booker, Pallone, and Holt. Holt is the genuine article.

I really don't care for the "rock star" method of electing representatives.

It will still take some time for me to get over Booker's stance on the vulture capitalists. He seems more than a little bit naive.

It would do him some good to do several terms in Congress before looking at anything bigger than that.

A Reaganite tool of the 1%. He's not naive, he knows exactly who he works for.

We don't need another apologist for the 1% in DC. There are enough there already.

I wish he would come home to WV, his father was a US Senator from WV and his mother served as secretary of state, and run for the Senate

New Jersey would be lucky to have him as senator

Holt has been the man of the hour for quite some time.

Booker should drop out of the US Senate run and go after Christie.

Buono should drop out of the race and endorse Booker for Governor instead.

Holt can take the U.S. Senate seat and Pallone can stay where he is.

I should point out, for people who take these tags seriously, that he remains a member of the New Democrat Coalition (that's the congressional affiliate of the much-hated-here centrist DLC). Oddly, he is also a member of the Progressive Caucus. I guess he's covering all his bases: literally.

If I lived in New Jersey, I'd be happy to vote for either Holt or Booker. New Jersey Democrats should be glad to have so many viable choices. May the best man (or maybe there will be a woman) win the primary.
