Scott Roeder fined $20 for intimidating abortion provider

It's a good bet that one of Roeder's many supporters has already paid his $20 fine.

WICHITA, Kan. —Kansas prison officials say the man convicted of killing an abortion provider violated prison rules by trying to intimidate the woman who reopened the doctor's clinic in Wichita.

A spokesman for the Kansas Department of Corrections said Wednesday that Scott Roeder will be punished with 45 days in disciplinary segregation with no outside communication, followed by 60 days of loss of privileges and a $20 fine.

The 55-year-old Roeder is serving a life sentence for fatally shooting Dr. George Tiller inside a Wichita church in 2009. Tiller was among the few U.S. doctors at the time performing late-term abortions.

In a recorded jailhouse call, Roeder tells an anti-abortion activist that reopening Tiller's clinic "is almost like putting a target on your back." The other activist posted the call on YouTube.

And he'll be able to get his email privileges back in only 45 days.

Roeder declined to comment on the administrative charge, but he was unapologetic in an email to The Associated Press on Monday. He accused Burkhart of disregarding his pleas to stop, saying opening the clinic was "blatantly asking God to swiftly judge this nation."

If Roeder doesn't realize it by now, shit's about to get REAL for him. The twenty dollar fine is nothing compared to sitting 45 days alone. I don't know what privileges he had before this, but this is serious -- and well deserved.

When he goes into solitary -- he's not going to get that email.

As to the rest? I don't think a prisoner should have unfettered access to email.

I prefer it be treated like snail mail... (hope that makes sense)

Same with general internet usage, limited time -- similar to people visiting.

Then he gets his email back.

That's nuts.

I know people Roeder has stalked and harassed. He's a very dangerous guy. He went to prison in the 90s for making bombs. He vandalized clinics up till the day before he murdered Dr. Tiller. There is NO REASON for him to have email access.

Like I said, I think they should leave him in there. Walking into a man's church and shooting him in the face (in the name of being Pro-Life™ )should carry the punishment of a life sentence in solitary confinement.

He is using terror to control others. And how anyone can think its ok to let him have e-mail access is beyond me. I just hope his e-mails and letters are monitored from now on.
