10 injured in shooting accident at suburban gun club

Ten people were injured Tuesday night at a Kane County shooting club after being struck by buckshot fired from a gun that had been mistakenly loaded with a live round, authorities said.

The incident took place about 7 p.m. at the St. Charles Sportsmen's Club, near Elburn, when a 69-year-old club member from St. Charles fired his shotgun into the clubhouse floor, sending buckshot ricocheting and striking people who were nearby, Kane County sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said.

(snip)

Illinois State Police Sgt. Matt Boerwinkle said that because no charges were filed, the man's firearms owner's privileges would not face any sanctions. The state police issue firearm owner's identification cards.

nice job old man!

But this isn't really related to gun control. No one is talking about restrictions on shotguns.

of shootings and accidents have been declining for nearly 40 years..there are many causes of death which if every incident were reported, would shock people..there are a couple posters hereabouts who scour for anything related to their pet cause hoping to make it appear problems are out of control and rapidly increasing..

The 10 people that were injured made a conscious decision to be in a place they knew guns were present. That's 10 people who now have buckshot in their asses. Me, I chose to come home after work, cut the grass, have a few beers with the neighbors and watch a hockey game. I don't have buckshot in my ass so who made the right decision? I'm kinda like the guy who declined the invitation to go duck hunting with Dick Cheney. If you choose to be around guns this shit eventually happens. That's exactly why I choose not to.

He was out pulling clay pidgeons so wasn't in the building when it occurred but was on site to see the mayhem afterwards. His best friend (17 years old and also employed there) had to have shrapnel removed from his abdomen AND his hand.

The guy who did this is the SAFETY DIRECTOR for the club too!!

Why am I not surprised....

This is Denny Hastert's old district. Heavily Rethug. A tea partier now occupies the seat - Randy Hultgren.

Ugh. Gotta protect the gun culture at all costs in the media in Rethug-ville.

that this happened to people who voluntarily chose to place themselves in a situation where this type of risk is inherent. I'm sick of reading stories about innocent people getting shot when they were not involving themselves in any kind of gun nuttery.

what other kind of round would you use?

Why wouldn't there be charges? Did he also mistakenly pull the trigger shooting the mistakenly loaded live shell? I thought there were no accidents with guns.
