What should have been, but never will be...
Today there's a high school graduation. Probably many. This one has one less student graduating than should be. My nephew.
This is one of those 'should of have been' days for my family. We should have been sitting in the bleachers beaming with pride ready to shout and scream when his name is called and he walked across the stage. Everyone with a tissue at the ready. Waiting anxiously for the ceremony to be over so we can run and hug him and tell him just how proud we are of him. But we can't, because he's not here. He died when he was 16.
We should be making preparations for the graduation party. More than likely he and my niece-she graduated 2 weeks ago would have partied together, that was their plan. Instead we watched her graduate with all the pride in the world but also with an ache in our heart because we knew this day was coming.
So, to my nephew Andrew, you've graduated, you're our guardian angel.
Let the people you love know it, you never know when they will be taken from you!
