And who gets to choose what the definition of "godly" means?

(2,338 posts)My ex used the Bible to justify anything he did or wanted. He is a master of taking anything written in the "Word" and molding it into what works best for him.

(82,383 posts)Which he built from the ground up. His sex life is impeccable - he and the wife have a few children. He goes to church every Sunday and serves on a church council of some kind. He gives money to the church regularly. The children go to Sunday School. His wife may work part time or at an ordinary job, but preferably does not. She is a prayer group leader and very good at Jesus speak (there are people who can pray very fluently and she is one of them as that is part of being a godly woman).
These people do not swear. They don't read anything that isn't available in a Christian bookstore. They are polite and pleasant to all. They do not listen to loud music. They don't smoke and they certainly don't drink. They read the Bible every day and can tell you all sorts of things that are in it that a lot of us forgot or never heard of.

(45,319 posts)community. This GD forum has standards which say
Statement of Purpose
Discuss politics, issues, and current events. No posts about Israel/Palestine, religion, guns, showbiz, or sports unless there is really big news.
Religious people regularly ignore that statement and post about each time the Pope farts some homophobic homily. Neither party is Godly, for the religious do not care about their neighbor's chosen parameters of discussion, and the Pope claims that hate is love and love is an attack on god. When I see in GD praise for homophobes which by the stated standards should not even be in GD the message is clear that the 'religious' want to rub that bigotry in our faces, in public, they want us to see the hate pontiff and that they follow him. It is an intensely passive aggressive action, and against 'the rules' as much as we have rules here.
So let's see more OP's about what hate soaked clubs are doing in the name of God.
But since we are doing this, what the Christians forget is what Jesus said, those who think they are 'godly' will be unknown to him, those who don't know him but were kind to the least of us are his brothers. Many will say to him 'Lord, Lord' and he says 'don't know you, jack, but I do know this guy' and the atheist says 'but I don't know you' and the Nazz, he says 'you bought me lunch one day when I was broke, but I've come into some gelt, welcome to the mansion'.
There is the answer that 'Christians' should meditate on, but they believe the opposite of that which was taught to them by NazzMan. Jesus 'never pray in public' but 'Christians' do so anyway, because 'we like to' Jesus 'only hypocrites pray out loud' Christians 'we pray out loud'. Case rested.

(115,681 posts)who use it are not what I would term "godly" but more intolerant and for bigotry, but that also is a broad categorization.
Those who use it get to decide what it means and change the meaning to suit themselves.
