makes them look good and at the next budget hearing, they can say, look at the bang up job we're doing, but, we'll need more money to keep this up.

It is also supposed to be a message to those in the drug and gun trade.

"That no mater how long it take the police will get you."

When you are trying to convince the city council that you need a few million for more cops, cars, planes, tanks, battleships or whatever, it helps if you can scare the shit out of them and convince them that you're fighting an uphill battle against out of control crime and their constituents aren't safe until you get the dough.

it is to show the public their accomplishments in fighting crime.

Why does it bother you?

If the Chief's of Police had their way every fucking hamlet in the country would have tanks equipped with large-caliber machine guns and flame throwers.

I posted about a week ago that there had not been a murder in the County I live in for the past 7 years, but we have County police that are armed like they were the FBI office in Baltimore. And this County shares two hard to reconcile facts, it has one of the lowest crime rates in the country and it is also one of the poorest counties in the Country - but you'd never know either was true to see how our Police are armed.

When I was 19 I was traveling with a buddy through St. Louis moving from one place to another. I had personal legal guns unloaded and locked in the trunk of my car. I was stopped and the cops searched my vehicle. They found the guns and charged me with 19 felonies and two misdameanors. They took me and my buddy to a room and put the guns and ammo on a long table with us at one end. Then they called in the local media and had them film us as "terrorists" they had caught. We saw a judge the next day. He laughed at the charges, dismissed them and sent us (and the guns) on our way.
