Thanks for posting this, Junkdrawer - I may have missed it otherwise.

(27,993 posts)And I agree with Think Progress...Panopticon is more apt.
But clearly we're on the same wavelength. And now that more has come out about Snowden, well, let's just say Rollout is looking better and better.
I hesitate because I could be wrong and help to smear a true patriot.

since the Patriot Act.
I use to have a display on my wall of the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, my military photo and my Discharge certificate on the wall. The day they passed the the Patriot Act....I took them off the wall. America isn't my America anymore. It is nothing more than a Gulag.

(70 posts)And learned posthumously what the PATRIOT Act meant.
I also learned names of bills in the sausage mill mean opposite to what they sound like.

(15,774 posts)it is a democrat telling it to you with a smile, doesn't make it any better than a republican yelling it at you.
For my daughter's open house in middle school, they read the Patriot Act aloud, like a Greek Chorus. Everyone sat in stunned silence, jaws dropped. It was all we talked about after the performance, and people applauded the director and students. I lodged a complaint to my Representative but I am a liberal in Texas...that's like being a voice in the wilderness. I am in the blue oasis of Houston but Jesus, Mary and Joseph.......

We are going down an ugly road and their are voices all around telling us to go back-but many, especially are leaders, are not listening.

Too few of our politicians and an appallingly SMALL number of our citizenry have a clue...

(70 posts)Need not include us.
We volunteer to every aspect of this surveillance by signing that phone contract. We must register ourselves to email facebook and every other electronic pathway Prism has to our lives.
I have acquaintances who eschew banks, debit/credit cards, phones, television, and every other blinking light beeping device we take for granted.
I find these people to be among the happiest I personally know.

(5,275 posts)That guy really saw this coming. As did old Ben Franklin from further back with his famous thought - "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety".
I can't remember ever not agreeing with Tom Tomorrow either.
It's all about making us so scared we're willing to surrender our personal rights. I'm troubled by so many saying they're Ok because it has to go through a FISA judge because that's pretty much been a rubber stamp.
Nukes scare me the most, because as long as they are around someone is at some point going to vaporize a city or cities, it's going to happen unless we get serious about getting rid of them no matter how much they want to get all up into our stuff here.
