French homophobes have so much flare!

The debate over and ultimate passage of marriage equality and gay adoption in France brought with it the most unique protests. We've seen anti-gay protesters dress in unitards to play father birds warning of homosexual dangers. And we've also seen topless women dressed as nuns championing equality. But the latest example of avant-garde activism comes from the former, from those who are still trying to fight the tide of change.

During yesterday's French Open match between Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, three activists made their anti-gay politics known. Because, you know, shirtless anti-gay protesting is a trend in France. While two of them, a man and a woman, simply held up a banner reading "Help! France tramples on the rights of children!," and five others protested shirtless atop the stadium, away from security, another, clearly the "star" of the show, stripped down to reveal a tummy reading "kids' rights," donned a mask, hopped onto the clay court, and brandished a sparkling red flare to show his disdain for equality. He was quickly taken down.

So, yes, a shirtless man with a giant red flame was trying to protest the gays. As John Aravosis writes at AmericaBlog, "Tight pants, muscled physique. It’s like all the homo and none of the phobe."

They anti-gay movement just recently beat a young man to death and now this? How many people could have been put in danger if those flames were not controlled (there are a lot of people there and panic could have erupted at any time if something had went wrong. Wasting all this time & energy oh never mind.

If so it takes a special person to write like that.

I have to admit that not being Catholic, I maybe haven't seen as many nuns as I should have, but I got the impression (mostly from the Sound of Music) that very few of them, if any, went around topless.
