EU warns Obama of ‘grave consequences’ from NSA intel scandal -

The EU has warned President Barack Obama’s administration of “grave adverse consequences” to the rights of European citizens from a huge US Internet surveillance programme, officials said Wednesday.

Viviane Reding, the EU’s Justice Commissioner, wrote a letter on Monday to US Attorney General Eric Holder demanding “swift and concrete” answers about the spy scheme when they meet in Dublin on Friday.

She set out seven detailed questions about the PRISM spy programme, which were leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden and revealed by The Guardian and Washington Post newspapers last week.

“Programmes such as PRISM and the laws on the basis of which such programmes are authorised could have grave adverse consequences for the fundamental rights of EU citizens,” she wrote.

1. I hope the financial implications get his attention, since he's paying his base no attention

...I mean, aside from spying on us. That's not the kind of attention I want.

Disagreement is ok. Vehement feelings are ok, on one side or the other. Ridiculing a liberal Conressman when he posts his opinion here (a very solid opinion in my view) is decidedly not ok. Obama is obviously not paying attention to his base, or he would stop his spying program. The Europeans, especially the Germans, may be able to accomplish some of what we cannot accomplish. Probably not, but at least they have a shot at it.

The rest of you are carrying on as usual every time an 'Obama bad" allegation drops out of the sky.

I was just reading about ....

A new coalition of privacy groups, internet companies and activists, called Stop Watching Us, unveiled itself Tuesday to demand "the US Congress reveal the full extent of the NSA's spying programs," which amount to "a stunning abuse of our basic rights." The coalition includes Mozilla, Reddit, John Cusack and the ACLU, among others.

Hopefully the issue will not be ignored up there in Congress land.

3. Obviously, according to some here, the EU Justice Commissioner is not living in the "real world".

How sad, and ironic, is that?

The founders of this country must be rolling over in their graves, when the former monarchies of Europe is chastising the USA for trampling on fundamental democratic rights.
