The convention approved the call in a resolution crafted by a committee at the groups annual meeting in Houston. It comes three weeks after the Boy Scouts of America voted in an historic ballot to allow gay youth to join after the issue of LGBT membership had roiled the youth organization for years.
The resolution doesn't name specific Boy Scouts leaders, but noted it believed some in executive and board positions had tried to enact the membership change earlier this year without first getting input from the full range of the Scouting family and asked for the BSA to remove them.
The resolution, however, did not go as far as recommending that Southern Baptist-affiliated churches leave the Boy Scouts.
But it asked those churches and families that planned to stay to work toward the reversal of this new membership policy and to advocate against any future change in leadership and membership policy that normalizes sexual conduct opposed to the biblical standard."

Then to maintain the consistency of ethics, the Southern Baptist Leadership must remove or deny any and all individuals who have gotten divorced for anything other than adultery.

And those who have married the virgins they raped.
And those who have married their slaves and/or prisoners of war.
etc...

(37,748 posts)I think the Southern Baptist Leadership predicates its beliefs in and on marriage as per the Apostle Paul's writing in Ephesians, rather than taking the Old Testament/Torah as its basis. Although that may have changed since '88 (when I was still a member of the Southern Baptists)

(12,132 posts)many of them don't have a clue why they believe what they believe or what books it came from.
But I haven't been in a baptist church since 1981 when I graduated high school. All I can tell you is they'll happily pick and choose whatever suits their fancy and supports their bigotry without consideration of what it says elsewhere in their own book. Old Testament is fine for eye for an eye type stuff and is still a part of their canon.
