I just had a terrible thought about Rick Santorum...

The guy will never be president and probably won't even be the rethug nominee but after he's out he's never going away. We're going to have to watch him and that creepy, shit-eating grin do panel on talk shows for the rest of his life. He's just too at ease with his crackpot points of view while in front of a camera. Every time the rethugs whip up some BS culture war issue, talk show booking guys are going to stroke their chins and say 'hmm, who can we bring on the show to sell the kookie side of this as if it were equally sensible... someone who can seem like a sane and legitimate national player for 30 minutes at a pop despite the fact they're completely nuts... someone who can look you right in the eye and tell you water isn't wet... Hey! Call Santorum!'

They will always try to find someone to make the argument, so they can fill the time between commercials.

Santorum has some media skills but the looney will shine through.

(also know as batshit crazy fundy crackpots, fueled by racism, sexism and homophobia, who are under the delusion that they are fulfilling -their- god's orders) march obediently to the polls and do their duty to reign supreme over the rest of us heathen, evil misfits.

AND, if for some reason they won, it would give them 4 to 8 years to work their ways, to completely redefine parts of the constitution as a liberal, treasonous misinterpretations, enact all their grandiose "so-called" christian tenets into legislative law, thereby instituting the "so-called" christian version of sharia law.

at which point mr. frothy himself could then be anointed king -er- president, for the next round.

contraception would only be the beginning.

but, excepting massive electoral fraud, it ain't gonna happen. but i am sure the "so-called" christians are working on that (massive electoral fraud).

after all, if you are doing god's will, the ends justifies the means.

for a winning Presidential nominee to choose an also-ran as VP. Other than Reagan-Bush and Kerry-Edwards, I can't really think of any times in my life when it's happened. Generally, enough animosity is built up between the candidates who have to slug it out on the campaign trail, and Romney's Attilla-the-Hun smear tactics are going to alienate both Ricky and Noot by the time of the convention. Besides, neither of them would bring anything to the table that Mitt can't already find in someone he hasn't beaten up yet.

Of course, Biden dropped out so fast after Iowa, it was easy to forget that he had also thrown his hat into the ring. At least Bush, Sr. and Edwards actually had some votes in the primaries/caucuses before they dropped out.

I personally think that Rick Santorm has (and has had) a lot more of Larry Craig in him than he cares to admit.

In the gauchest Beltway-speak I know, Rick is a "live boy or dead girl" candidate, and it's only a matter of time before we find out which it is.

But for the moment his campaign is toothless and Santorum is simply not in a position to gather the delegates he needs to make it a real race. Most of the delegates Santorum has "won" are non-binding promises that won't be honored if he's outed--and probably won't be honored even if he is not.

It's not in the financial interests of our bought media to report the reality that only Romney's campaign has filled enough delegate slots to win the thing, however, so the sham continues.

Since that's a pretty nasty allegation, I feel compelled to offer some rationale for my thoughts. I think it all comes down to Newt Gingrich, who is the dirt-collector on all the primary candidates and the sociopath who is ruthless enough to use all of it against them.

Gingrich's non-aggression pact with Santorum never would have happened had Gingrich considered Santorum an actual threat. So, I feel, Gingrich must have some powerful leverage over Santorum.

What Gingrich needs more than anything else is a front-running candidate that he can tuck in behind as running mate and then easily and quickly take out once they're in (yes, I firmly believe that Gingrich is contemplating taking out two Presidents to get what he wants). Santorum appears to have been chosen by Gingrich as the candidate with the combination of electability and liability that he needs to get in, and then get that guy out.

From there it's easy to guess what that leverage is. Homophobia is always the "do not disturb" sign on the closet. Again, look to Senator Craig as the example.

Crazy, I know, but only until it happens.

Don't turn on Fox, don't listen to hate radio, then you won't have to see/hear him.

You will also probably have lower blood pressure and a better outlook on life.

This is what I don't get about some people, the need for them to watch these conservative train wrecks, Palin, Bachman, Santorum, whoever. All you're doing is feeding their ratings and feeding their ego. Let them go, back to the obscurity they came from.
