Girl, 5, Collects Hundreds Of Dollars For Peace Selling Lemonade Outside Westboro Baptist Church

?10
What happens when a little girl decides to set up a lemonade stand for peace outside the Westboro Baptist Church headquarters in Kansas? Members of the community step out in droves to show support, even as the hate group tries to quash it.

Five-year-old Jayden, the daughter of Jon Sink, founder of the philanthropic arts group FRESHCASSETTE - Creative Compassion, decided to set up a stand selling pink lemonade at The Equality House on Friday afternoon. The Equality House is a rainbow-colored building directly across the street from Westboro's Topeka compound. The house, which was painted the colors of the pride flag in March, was bought by Aaron Jackson, one of the founders of Planting Peace, a multi-pronged nonprofit set up in 2004 and aimed at spreading goodwill and equality around the globe.

Jayden, who is from Kansas City, decided to set up her stand at the Equality House after her parents explained to her the significance of its construct. After being told that the church across the street had a message of hate, she set a goal of raising money to go towards a message of love and peace.

So she painted a banner for the event reading, "Pink Lemonade for Peace: $1 Suggested Donation." She put the stand in the grass and waited. But the waiting didn't take long. Supporters came in by the droves and $1 turned into hundreds of dollars.

During the day, Westboro sent representatives outside to try and find a way to stop the event. They apparently attempted to call the local police and stooped to yelling profanities when that didn't work, like calling a group of soldiers who rode out on their motorcycles to suport the event "bastards."

Yeah, keep calling soldiers bastards and find out what happens.

Good on you Jayden and your dad!

is hopelessly lost, my hope is restored by stories like this. Five years old and a peace activist. Big grandma hugs to Jayden and her parents for bringing her up right.

(And WBC members yelling "bastards" to soldiers? These people aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer are they?)

WBC knows the soldiers will not give them the beating they so richly deserve. In uniform or not, active duty soldiers are subject to the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) and civilian laws at the same time. Verbal provocation is not reason for assault, period. Civilian law might let them off if they defended themselves from physical attacks, but I sure the military would not be so forgiving.

Soldiers will avoid confrontation. WBC know this and exploits it for publicity.

It's actually pretty cowardly.

Try something brave WBC. Dress in green and gold. Go to Soldier Field in Chicago on Opening day of the NFL season. And loudly explain that the reason the Bears suck is because G*D hates Chicago because it is full of pussies.

While that will deter a lot of soldiers, there are always some people in any group who are loosely wrapped. The WBCees may yell at the wrong person or people one day, and lawsuits won't save hem.

..the proper combination of persons insulted, avenues of escape, potential of witnesses to having cameras, levels of intoxication, available blunt force trauma inducing items, and general give a fuck; will work against WBC.

Practical demonstrations of Biblical level destruction. Sunday school for idiots.

I would never advocate physical violence, even against these slimeballs. My statement was referring to even more derision heaped on them and their "cause" via calling our soldiers names given that most people in this country honor and respect members of our armed forces.

I also take exception to your assertion that these people are "smart." Anyone who believes what they believe are ignorant fucks.

..smart was the wrong word...lets switch that to "crafty".

And unfortunately I'm not so socially evolved I would completely rule out violence. Which is why I talk and listen to people who have a greater sense of civilization than I.

I heard them on several talk shows and their profanity laced insults were astounding. I just didn't expect it from people who claim to be religious.

This must have really bothered them or they would have ignored it.

What a darling child and so successful at 5.

Does anyone know if it is Baptists that hate soldiers or is it this congregation?

I have no love for Baptists, but these loons are really a sect by themselves.
Others hate gays and whoever, but few if any carry it to the extremes that WBC does.

The actually help in a way. WBC gets loads of media attention. They may be the public face for all Baptists and other haters. That certainly has to hurt any people who they are associated with even if they are the most marvelous people in the world.
