The GOP Primaries.
While this big obnoxious reality show is going on, the GOP is quietly working on their real objective: taking over the Senate and keeping the house... and it's an easily achievable goal -- especially if nobody's watching.
The Democrats are defending 24 seats in the Senate.
The GOP has TOTAL control of gerrymandering (remapping congressional districts) in 15 states. Of the 113 seats in the House that will be up for grabs in 2012, the Democrats currently hold 44 and must gain 25.
It would make the GOP vary happy if we all just continue to watch their clown car. Then in January 2013 we can watch for the next 4 years as a united Congress spends all of its time on impeachment hearings; crashes-and-burns the Federal Government; publicly hangs responsibility around the neck of an "ineffective" Democratic President and, thanks to the passage of NDAA; takes the White House back in 2016 with the tools for a military dictatorship already in place.
Ever play Sid Meier's "Civilization?" If your citizens start gettin' rowdy, you can change your government to despotism with one click.
Anyway, here's some fun info if anyone is interested:

(2,261 posts)Republicans win their elections, we are doomed to 4 more years of the kind of idiocy we see now, no action to create jobs, continued budget last minute deals, and of course, the war on women using birth control, the biggest, most idiotic issue of our time.
Thanks for the links. We have to get busy. Work for House and Senate candidates more than for Obama, since Obama is virtually assured of winning the election, given the silly competition he faces from R-money, or any of the more stupid contenders.
I have been saying this for over 12 months, ever since the elections of 2010, we need to concentrate on both House and Senate as much as or more than re-electing Obama. Obama is useless with a Republican House and Senate.

(2,431 posts)Our incumbent since 2005, John B.T. Campbell (R), now lives in CA-45, whose incumbent Mary Bono is running for CA-36 this time. Campbell has yet to make any announcement.
Registered Repugs outnumber Dems nearly 2-1 here. Sadly, it would take an act of God to get this seat.

(46,585 posts)They were talking about the gerrymandering going on across the country. They reported Republicans having complete control of 20 state legislatures; Democrats 7 (these figures a little different than reported in the OP). The Rs are creating re-segregation through gerrymandering especially in the south. In No. Carolina for instance, Ds had 7 seats to Rs 6 seats after the last election. Post-gerrymandering, it is now Rs 10 and Ds 3.
I suspect this election will be a bare knuckles balls-out brawl.

(2,431 posts)When I was researching the OP, I saw varying numbers of Senate seats up for grabs. 23, 24, 25...
That's why I posted multiple links/POVs on this.
Everyone here knows that the current GOP candidate pool is a farce; I don't think we've even seen their true nominee yet.
The 2012 Senate/House races are the real deal and almost nobody is paying attention.

This stuff seems to me incredibly obvious... as your first poster pointed out, Obama's useless by himself... and if that hasn't become entirely Ron Obvious to everyone in the world by now...
On the other hand, modern Americans can be such chuckled-headed football-brained imbeciles, though... a nation of little Stewie Griffins...
