Miss Utah at Miss America last night - dumb is dumb!!!

&feature=player_embedded

http://www.inquisitr.com/763581/miss-utah-fumbles-pageant-question-gets-mocked-on-twitter/

<snip>
The unfortunate flub by Miss Utah, Marissa Powell, came during the question and answer session of the program. While dressed in a beautiful evening gown, the beauty pageant contestant was asked:

“A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?”

Her response, according to many Twitter users, made her the perfect poster child for her response. Miss Utah gave a fairly jumbled answer, which contained the following phrase:

“… we need to try to figure out how to create education better so that we can solve this problem.”

The look on Marissa Powell’s face said it all. Miss Utah was sure she blew it. And she did, as the crown eventually went to Miss Connecticut, Erin Brady, instead.

On Twitter, Miss USA was ridiculed by users, who said things like, “If you’re having trouble sleeping like me… watch Miss UTAH say the dumbest thing ever to at least make you laugh!”

if they are in school, they have to be "A" students, for instance.

Or how about just a general intelligence quiz to weed out the real hicks from the sticks?

Something we could be more proud of: beauty AND brains! The two are NOT mutually exclusive.

A beauty contest that operates under the pretense of being something more substantial. And the people who watch it.

If it's a beauty contest, make it a beauty contest, wearing bikinis, or even nude. Leave the smart discussions to women who arent competing in beauty contests! The whole idea of making the contest about being the perfect package for the judges is, in itself, kind of stupid.

PZ Myers comments: "What’s really going on here is an effort to find supporting evidence for a bias that women in beauty pageants are stupid — and the media are happily jumping on one instance of a clumsy, misspoken answer as confirmation." Probably a distraction from all the NSA misdeeds! I wonder if Powell did this on purpose to troll the media.

In the meantime I searched a little on her background, and Powell is a singer who has attended Brigham Young University, the LDS university, but nothing clear about her religious background is public domain. So I'm just speculating that her religious upbringing or influence could have been why she couldn't answer the question well. The MWC Board suggests: "The correct answer should have been..."I don't go to school to get an education, I go to school so I can find a husband.....women shouldn't work anyway""

live on national TV, and being hit with an unexpected question. I think I would have just panicked and clammed up. To her credit, Miss Utah stumbled through it and an answer out. Miss South Carolina was only 17 when she gave that infamous answer about geography.

It is certainly not a matter of intelligence. Part of what is being tested is poise and the ability for a contestant to handle herself in public. That is a very relevant skill for a pageant winner.

Judging other human beings and letting them represent America, based pretty much on their looks alone. If we did elections like this, Sarah Palin might be POTUS today.

unintentional self mocking comedy bit. Even the "do gooder" video clips of what Miss USA does for a year is laughable.
First you win a prize. Then you get to appear next to poor children in another country for a photo op to promote how giving and kind a corporate promotion tool like a beauty pageant can be. It's time to start rewarding and promoting on a grand scale teachers for good teaching, firemen for fighting fires, doctors for saving lives among other people who promote the betterment of all human beings. This is nothing more than a hold over of male time worn dominance and ogling of women.

Sure I'll hear, "Get over it." But it's hard to get over the absolute ridiculous parade of idiocy that is presented to us as something that is to be respected.

I'm live in CT. Yay us!...I guess. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be proud of. A pretty girl managed to say something less stupid than another pretty girl. And now she will go on tours representing our state. Whoo-hoo!

This is as famous as she'll ever be, and for all the wrong reasons. And she probably practiced for half her life to reach this pinnacle. Sad.

We have the internet now...just post pictures of pretty women in evening gowns and swimsuits and let people vote on them. Does anyone really, REALLY, care about their opinions on educationalism or world trades? This whole moronic episode is as insulting to men as it is to women. (BTW: Note to Swarm...I'm kidding about the internet polling thing...but you wouldn't know because you all have me on ignore anyway).

On a tangential note, we need to stop the Miss. Universe Pageant, too. It is totally fixed. Someone from Earth ALWAYS wins!
