(62,325 posts)posted here. A memo of NSA talking points! Lol! They are all over the internet.
I really do not have a problem with people who are genuinely conflicted. They generally do not use talking points. But it's not hard to distinguish between the two.

(8,377 posts)There are a relatively small number of people who are trying to trash Snowden, and these same people show up on every thread.
The same thing is true on gun control and most other controversial topics.
It is a bully tactic. Make a lot of noise and yell at anybody who wants to have a reasonable conversation. Try to create such a commotion that people don't recognize that nobody really supports the bully.

(9,841 posts)AP journalists aren't supposed to use 'whistleblower' when talking about Snowden anymore - it was deemed too 'positive.'
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)use the correct word, Whistle Blower as often as possible. I wonder what the consequences are for a journalist not obeying the Government's orders regarding their use of words?
And has anyone in the media disobeyed them so far?
reformist2
(9,841 posts)I'm not sure if there is any "punishment" for those journalists that don't comply, but there is quite a bit of groupthink that goes on with the AP. Here's the actual memo that was sent out last week:
"Colleagues, With two secret-spilling stories in the news -- NSA/Snowden and Wikileaks/Manning -- let's review our use of the term "whistle-blower" (hyphenated, per the Stylebook).
A whistle-blower is a person who exposes wrongdoing. It's not a person who simply asserts that what he has uncovered is illegal or immoral. Whether the actions exposed by Snowden and Manning constitute wrongdoing is hotly contested, so we should not call them whistle-blowers on our own at this point. (Of course, we can quote other people who call them whistle-blowers.)
A better term to use on our own is "leakers." Or, in our general effort to avoid labels and instead describe behavior, we can simply write what they did: they leaked or exposed or revealed classified information.
Sometimes whether a person is a whistle-blower can be established only some time after the revelations, depending on what wrongdoing is confirmed or how public opinion eventually develops.

(1,456 posts)there are some of us who actually understood from the beginning that ANYTHING you put online is there FOREVER.
When you step outside, you are monitored by multiple cameras. Because you are no longer in your "private space" but now outside in a public space.
So, when you go on a public site and you give them all your private info - why in the hell do you think you have private rights in a public place?
Stupid.
