Is It Time For President Obama To Deliver A Direct Address To The Nation?

In light of everything that has come out in the past month, and the fact that CNN's latest poll shows that his approval rating has fallen 8 points in one month, down to 45%, I think it is past due for him to give a direct address to the American people in primetime to explain everything.

What are your thoughts?

1. It would be pointless if he's just going to lie.

He's already on the record claiming to be the most transparent, etc, which is laughable. So unless he comes clean about the surveillence program (unlikely, since the WH is still lying and hiding details from Congress), then a public address will likely be met with derision.

If he did do a PA coming clean, he would face derision.

I am hoping, for the good of the country and our freedom, that he is pondering cracking it wide open and putting and end to secret spying of US citizens.

At the very least, were it not secret spying, we could all decide on the matter. As it is, the spying being a top-secret, even many DUers are not quite up to speed, eh?

6. You're right, any public statement would be met with derision.

If actions speak louder than words, his best bet would be to quietly shut the program down. Of course, that won't make his corporate masters happy.

2. Probably too late unless he's waiting for more details on who is leading the surge before he speaks.

It is too coincidental that all these issues rose to the surface at the same time. It is as though "someone" had an agenda with launch dates for the media set up in advance.

After all, the Republicans aren't working in Congress, so they must be spending their time writing up these blurbs to take an ounce of truth and turn it into a spicy cake to serve the public...bite by bite by bite.

Can't you just see them sitting in a conference room and asking for ideas of scandals to hit Obama with? Hit him in the same month so the public is overwhelmed and left with the impression Obama isn't the person they thought he was.

I watched that special on Clinton, last night, and was amazed at how familiar the attacks were to today's dirty tricks. Think back to Carter and how they treated him and his family...Billy Boy for one, his mother, their picnics for Congress, the hostages...on and on and on.

They are a dirty bunch and I'd LOVE to see Obama gather enough evidence to finally expose them for what they are. It used to be orneriness, but it is now becoming downright serious and most inciteful.

and "Americans have nothing to worry about." Yea, right, and some of us are not total sheep either, and don't gratefully accept anything and everything with the blanket explanation - "it makes us safer from the terrorists"

And 3 terrorist attacks stopped by alert citizens, that the NSA takes credit for".
Yes, whether he tells the truth, or lies, he's going to be laughed at.
