In the Spirit: Some florists won't deliver to atheist

In the Spirit: Some florists won't deliver to atheist

It seemed like such a simple transaction.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation in Madison wanted to send a bouquet of roses to Jessica Ahlquist, a 16-year-old atheist in Cranston, R.I., who had just won a court battle with her school district over a Christian prayer banner.

The foundation quickly learned there are some things you can't say with flowers, at least not in Cranston.

Four floral shops declined to deliver flowers to the teen, according to the foundation. The foundation now has filed complaints against two of the stores with the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights, alleging illegal discrimination based on religion.

If she hadn't let on she was an atheist by making a big fuss over a silly little sign, the florists wouldn't have had any problem delivering flowers to her.

So you see she brought this on herself by making a spectacle of what should be a private matter between her and that in which she does not believe.

y'all.

going to be getting if Holy Ricky or Cheater Newt get elected president. This country will go from secular to a theocracy. Don't get me wrong I believe in god. However, I am a strong believer of separation of church and state.

If they refused to deliver to Jewish or Muslim folks the cry would be loud and clear.

But an atheist, now that's just beyond the pale.

They don't got no religion so hows come they can be disriminatin' against if they ain't got no religion

...of the bible:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you*
Love thy neighbor as thyself*
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven*
etc.

Where the asterisk marks the list of exceptions.

If they're independents, they need to be shamed by their actions so that non-jeebus freaks will know who they're dealing with.
