Humane Officer Barry Accorti recently shot and killed five kittens in an Ohio woman's backyard -- in front of her screaming, crying children.
Accorti is a retired sergeant from the North Ridgeville Police Department and is now working as a part-time "humane" officer. He responded to a call from a woman about a feral mother cat and her five kittens who were living in a woodpile in her backyard.
Accorti told the woman that shelters were full, and although he wasn't supposed to do this, was going to send the kittens to "kitty heaven". He then proceeded to take out his gun and do just that, as the woman's children watched in horror from an upstairs window.
As of now, the police chief is not planning on doing anything about Accorti or the disgusting, horrible way in which this situation was handled.
Please tell the North Ridgeville Police Department to fire Officer Barry Accorti for murdering the kittens and charge him with five counts of animal cruelty!

life long demo
(1,113 posts)The guy was the "humane officer". I can't believe the chief said there was nothing wrong. Even if they discount the killing of the kittens (which we shouldn't), he used his gun in a populated area, within feet of children. I have to tell myself to calm down. Thanks Steve.

On Monday, Alley Cat Allies Executive Director Paul Berry was on the ground in North Ridgeville, Ohio, to support the community in its opposition to the June 10 shooting of five kittens by a humane officer. We delivered a petition with 30,000+ signatures to Mayor G. David Gillock calling for North Ridgeville to halt the euthanasia of cats and for officials to meet with Alley Cat Allies to discuss a humane approach to feral cats.
After a heated City Council meeting with dozens of residents expressing their dismay over the shooting, Berry met with North Ridgeville Police Chief Mike Freeman to discuss alternatives for dealing with feral cat populations and offered to help the community transition to the humane and effective Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) approach.
