As of 5:23 p.m. Central today, the first page of Latest showed the word "Snowden" eight times.

"NSA" was shown three times.

"Booz", or "Booz Allen", zero.

Clearly, the "blame the messenger" diversion is working even here at DU, which means that's it's a lock for the general populace.

It only means the authoritarian apologists don't have any other arguments. They put all their eggs in the blame the messenger basket and are pushing it hard. With the number of threads they are making it just shows that even they know no one is buying it. Look at the recs on these Snowden attack threads. They are very low.

Both sides are interested in the subject right now. Why can't we have a lot of threads if it is the subject we are interested in right now ?

Eric Snowden's motives, past, sexuality and taste in movies are not the issue. I don't care if he hates Obama. I don't care if he's a patriot or a traitor.

I care that our rights are being violated, and in a most egregious manner.

ANY discussion of Eric Snowden is a diversion.

Totally opposing politicians do that all the time. That has become a meaningless phrase. It's clearly an attempt to claim all the people agree with you.

Including the media. It's more entertaining that dry things like Fourth Amendment case law. Attempts to discuss that case law have been made here. But it takes some doing and it's much easier to yell on about Eddie or the our rights are being violated. We love being victims, it's so dramatic. We are not victims and that this issue can go into the courts and it be decided whether this is too unreasonable and violates the Fourth Amendment. But that's duller than law school. So much easier to scream that we are heading for a police state.

There are plenty of people screaming without context of the legal issues. That's not disagreement, that's the opinion of uninformed people. Some of whom get quite emotional.
