Charlie Rose, Exclusive with President Obama airs Tonight

Busy day today...late night

Instead of focusing on how we can cut away any government abuses of power, the real story...has become the collapse of journalism. In addition to the sad state of digital journalism, the truly harrowing impact of this trend is the rapid unraveling of activist credibility when, in fact, it’s critical for any effort against government overreach to stand above reproach...That’s why articles like the ones published by Greenwald and McCullagh infuriate me so much. It’s counterproductive and embarrassing to the broader effort. There’s enough fuel without all of the hyperbole to achieve the necessary checks. But when the Cause becomes tainted with so many glaring falsehoods, it becomes too easy to cast the effort as being orchestrated by alarmist crackpots and bug-eyed conspiracy theorists who deal in misinformation to get what they want.

Hmmm...sounds like what I just said a few days ago is still happening. On something as important as this story, its sad to see the sensationalists mining it for clicks and hyping it for their own agenda rather than providing accurate information. I have a hunch that before this is over, some journalistic careers are going to tank spectacularly.

Charlie Rose, Exclusive with President Obama airs Tonight

Charlie sat down for an exclusive, 45 minute interview with President Obama on Sunday. Airs tonight on PBS at 11pm. pic.twitter.com/fov47MvVoG

It has been confirmed that the discussion was about NSA, etc. I'm glad to see that the President chose a journalist like Rose with such an impeccable reputation. So the big story will be the interpretation of this interview tomorrow...stay tuned.

Remember when the first Survivor series aired? That was about 13 or so years ago. My, how time flies.

I think that was the first, or one of the first of it's kind and it gained enormous following. It was different. but

we learned that it was also staged and scripted, but at least it had genuine entertainment value for many.

Fast forward 13 years and what do we have? The tele is flooded with the lowest reality crap imaginable and carried by the likes of National Geo, and the Learning Channel.

o for gawd's sakes what is wrong with us?

Now anyone with a damn keyboard can claim to be a 'journalist' no matter how stupid they are or how many times they are proven to make false claims. All they need is a following of xxx number of people, be controversial enough to be noticed, and voila, there ya go.

So that is how it goes, from something decent to something unrecognizable - news media/entertainment have melded into one.

Don't pretend the media has "become" anything because it has sucked for a long time.

Oh, speaking of Gore. He finds the NSA leaks unconstitutional and outrageous. Has he come to suck, too?

They turned on a dime.

I remember what put me over the edge with CNN. It was the 24/7 take a story and grip it in your teeth, refusing to let it go. This was ages ago that I stopped watching. The day after nauseating day, stories. From Sandra Levy, Natalie Holloway and Michael Jackson and so many more.(sp? of their names).

It went on and on, no news, just hollow dialog and senseless speculation!
Like some crazed dogs with rabies, when you know that you have to put it down so no one would get hurt.

This reminded me of a scene in the book To Kill A Mockingbird with Atticus Finch

The mad dog has become mindless, uncontrollable and dangerous, so it is necessary to shoot it. This is a symbol for Maycomb society, and more specifically, the prejudice which exists within it. Prejudice is mindless and dangerous, and is imprinted in the minds of most Maycombians throughout their lives, as they are constantly surrounded by it. As Tim Robinson wonders through the streets, people retreat inside their houses, boarding windows and locking doors, refusing to confront the danger outside. This symbolises their moral laziness; rather than seeing the wrongs in their own society, like Atticus, they are ignorant, and refuse to confront their own prejudiced ways. Atticus is the only one who steps up to confront the mad dog, and he is also the only one who stands up against prejudice, as shown later in the book by his brave defence of the innocent Tom Robinson in the face of a bigoted jury. The message Harper Lee is trying to convey is that prejudice must be ended, or ‘shot’. The person attempting to stop prejudice is Atticus, a highly principled man who sees through the prejudice by which he is surrounded, the same man who shoots the mad dog. In a way, Atticus is made to seem like some form of guardian for Maycomb, not only attempting to protect Maycombians from a mad dog, but also from the dreadful prejudice which exists within them.

One of my all time favourites, ever.

I've not watched CNN for quite a while now. They used to get my blood pressure up all the time so I finally decided to let them go. I'd be swearing and cursing at the tv most of the time and frothing at the mouth, it was kinda funny looking back now.

I lied. I saw CNN on Friday night (first in a long time I swear) to watch George Stroumboulopoulos, an interviewer that works for CBC but has a 10 week contract or so with CNN. I say, O! George! why why! CNN? Are you daft?/?

Apparently his ratings are really low there but I consider him one of the best interviewers I have ever seen. He is charming and engaging, not intrusive and has a way about him that seems to make people really comfortable and chatty with him. And he does his homework, he knows who he is talking with.

haha, I'm getting off topic.

by carolyn

I just watched Charlie Rose’s interview with PBO. If you can get it, do watch it. It is superb. Charlie asks good probing questions, and the president gives solid, complete, thoughtful answers, and Charlie lets him talk. The President got a LOT of information across to the person willing to listen. The first subject was Syria, and he is very well aware of the extremes on both sides, and will take his deliberate way to work through this problem. No one is going to push and pull him. He told Charlie that unless you have been in the situation room and listened to all the military and other people explain ALL the ramifications of every conceivable option, and what could and should happen and what should not happen…..you have no business giving advice. This is complex.
As I watched I just said a prayer of thankfulness that this man is president of the U.S. right now, and let’s face it, he is president of the world too.
