Obama said that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court "is transparent." We dont doubt that there are good reasons for secrecy at the court, but if youre going to operate a mostly secret court, you also dont get to crow about how "transparent" it is. The president cant have his cake and eat it, too. We rate his claim Pants on Fire."

Even though I don't think of Politfact as always correct, it's interesting to see how they reported this. Besides the initial issue of spying on all of us, a second idea that also worries some folks is simple; can we really trust that even Obama knows what the spooks are doing unless there is real transparency like open courts?

Nope. Everything is transparent, legal and for your protection.

(114 posts)Why should the US be transparent? We are naive fools to even be having this discussion.
No other country is transparent and no one is condemning them.
Is Russia transparent? Is Britain transparent? Is Iran or any other Arab country transparent?
Can you name one single other country that is transparent? Oh....I guess none of those places spy, either.
To dump all the "spying outrage" on Obama's desk as if he invented spying is playing into the hands of the Republicans who want to take over.
DO YOU THINK THE REPUBLICANS WILL BE TRANSPARENT?
