School reportedly bans 3 kids from grad ceremony for 8th-grade prank
ELLENVILLE (NY) Three eighth-graders were reportedly banned from walking during Thursday's middle school graduation after administrators learned of a prank during a school trip.
Four male students made a pact during a June 8-9 class trip to Boston to lather up the first student to fall asleep with shaving cream and gel, according to lawyer Michael Sussman, who's advising the families.
When the school district got word of the prank, Sussman said they classified the behavior as bullying and suspended the students for a week. The district then got permission during a hearing Tuesday to extend the suspension until the end of the school year, he said, including graduation ceremonies.
The district said they're prohibited by federal law from discussing the particulars of the incident, but place the utmost importance on student safety.
One of the suspended eighth-graders was class president, Sussman said, while another had grandparents flying in from Chile for the graduation.
