Sen. Chuck Schumer commented Sunday on news that Edward Snowden left Hong Kong, where he had been hiding since he revealed himself as the NSA leaker, for Moscow, saying that "Putin always seems eager to put a finger in the eye of the United States."
The U.S had made a formal request for his extradition, although the Hong Kong government allowed him to lawfully leave. Russia is not expected to be Snowden's final destination, but he is believed to be landing in Moscow before he heads to another country.
"The fact that (Russian officials) allowed him to land, indicates that we are not in a place of cooperation," Schumer said on CNN's State of The Union. He added that this could have "serious consequences" for Russian-U.S. relations.
Schumer also said he is "very disappointed" in Hong Kong's decision to let him leave, adding that he believes the "hand of Beijing" was involved here.

(45,319 posts)equality just this month when he along with Durbin and DiFi demanded the exclusion of provisions to protect LGBT people under the immigration bill. They claimed, Chuck claims it was because Republicans would not like it, but Chuck voted for DOMA, so he has always opposed equality just like the Republicans.

(36,418 posts)What's the point of the poutrage, Chuck? How else are they supposed to respond under the circumstance? Does anyone seriously think that Russia should arrest an NSA leaker? Would we arrest a Russian military intelligence service leaker? No. We'd be the first to grant him asylum.
So, get off it.

(5,455 posts)Russia isn't our friend or ally and I'm quite sure that various Russian intelligence agencies are going to have a nice chat with Snowden during his layover in Moscow.
I also don't think that Russia likes it's current status in the world, economically and militarily it is a second rate power that happens to have nuclear weapons. I think Russia would very much like to be the country they were when they were the Soviet Union.
