Go ahead, Snowden, show us that the NSA has 'direct access' to all the world's Internet providers.

Show us that the NSA can watch our thoughts form as we type.

Show us that the NSA is downloading the Internet on a daily basis.

But while you're doing that, stop stealing classified documents and giving them to other countries.

I will go where the evidence leads but so far there isn't much from Snowden other than the metadata that was obtained with a legal warrant.

Plus Daily Show and Colbert Report.

But the guy is a thief and it seems he has given information to the Chinese. Of course the intelligence community wants him captured and stopped. To not want to stop him means giving a green light to all other would-be heroes.

THEY'RE OUR COUNTRY'S FUCKING SPY AGENCIES.

Please cut this Pollyanna, darling innocence bullshit. We conduct espionage and so does every other country. And we do it in secret. Every country has secrets. Everybody has secrets.

Barring complete cynicism, this stuff is hidden because it is national security stuff. It's cloak and dagger. It may not work perfectly and you can be a big cynic about it, but what country has existed with no national security classification and secrets whatsoever?

So bin Laden would have known we were coming for him. Al Qaeda would know all of our vulnerabilities.

Sure, nuke codes and the names of our spies (such as Plame, your Dickness) need to be kept secret.

But the only reason "national security" is compromised by the revelations that our government is continually spying on all innocent Americans is because when the extent of these programs is made clear, these programs will become highly unpopular with any thinking Americans.

What else do you deem they can keep secret without it being. Some Americans will get spied on, why is that wrong in itself if the might be planning attacks. Being American doesn't mean they may not be part of something. The standard is in FISA - if you don't like that law it's fine but why exaggerate and claim the government is spying on all of us?

Again, if all the NSA and its billion dollar contractors are doing is on the up and up as you suggest and they have nothing to hide from us, what do they have to fear from full disclosure of the true scope of their spying programs?

being a big cynic about it is falling far short of what's appropriate. We didn't get a new FBI, CIA, NSA, etc when Obama was elected. Most of the ones there are the same ones that were spying on Americans and torturing people under Bush without having any problem with it.

For every great victory there's a dozen scandals where they were targeting Americans in some plot or another or trying to destabilize some elected official in another country. And you can be sure they publicize every victory. Hell they even publicize the fake victories where terrorism would've never occurred to the "terrorist" if they hadn't egged him on for six months.

So no, I don't trust them at all. Not one freaking inch. There's a difference between demanding to know what they're doing to Americans and our allies and demanding to know legitimate anti-terrorism activities. Killing Bin Laden is not a "Do whatever you want in secret forever with no one the wiser" card.

I'm not blaming this on President Obama. I doubt he knows a tenth of what the alphabet agencies are doing. It's not like he can follow every agent every minute of every day. To blame him for it would be to credit him with omniscience.

You know what? We fucking KNEW Bin Laden's intentions. We fucking KNEW about the pilots who wanted to learn to fly but not take off and land.

And we knew that WITHOUT all the goddamned trashing of the constitution.

Wake and smell the coffee, dammit. This kind of thinking is destroying my country, and my children's country. If you feel the need to cower in the corner and suck your thumb, do it with people who love authoritarianism. Go to China. I hear their food is excellent.
