UPDATE: What You Can Do Today To Help Stop The Abortion Bans in TX Lege No Matter Where You Live

Jessica Luther has been doing incredible work keeping us informed about what's going in the Texas Lege's attempt to become the worst state in the Union for women's reproductive rights. There will be five abortion clinics in the entire state able to stay open if these laws pass. And all in a special session meant only for emergency legislation. It's outrageous.

But today is crucial. You can find a lot of helpful information in the link above.

But the most important thing anyone can do is help a filibuster. TX State Senator Wendy Davis needs your stories if you are willing to share. The link for submitting your own stories about reproductive rights is right here:

http://wendydavisforsenate.com/standwithwendy/

500 word limit. Come on, DU, help us out here in Texas. Thank you.

ETA: Senator Davis is in her fifth hour. The chair just ruled that speaking about Planned Parenthood is not germane to anti-choice legislation. She needs more stories! Please help!

Watch the ongoing filibuster here:

thing anyone can do is to donate to the ACLU or Planned Parenthood.

they're the ones that will be mounting legal challenges to this as they've done in so many states. They need money to keep up the good work.

Doing their best to get rid of abortion by stopping state funds from going to Planned Parenthood and another org that provides abortions if needed. I support Planned Parenthood on a reg basis now. Sorry. I'm not trying to take attention away from Texas. Everyone needs to support Texas now.

and unnecessary women body parts laws that violates women's civil liberties are sweeping across the nation by GOPer run states. Donations are fine but the bottom line, vote these assholes out. Texas is turning blue.

GOPers don't give a eff about rape neither and some truly believe its GAWD's sent.

A friend of mine was at the statehouse until 2 am the other night, waiting to tell her story. Hundreds of women were with her, and only a fraction were able to have their 3 minutes at the microphone. ALL of the forced birthers got to talk though.

was the head of the DNC he had a 50 state strategy to get Dems elected. It helped move the ball here, but then it stalled as we focused on only key battleground states. We need that again. People are finally seeing that the Rethugs have gone too far, but they still need Progressives to organize the massive untapped power here! If Texas were to turn blue again we could hold off the Mitt Romney's of the world easy. If we could get COMPLETE CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM (CCFR) with publicly funded elections we could break the stranglehold of corruption that is ruining this ONCE great country. We cannot out money the corporations so we need to push hard to get all new candidates elected that will, as their 1st order of business, pass CCFR!
Wendy Davis has shot up from a Fort Worth City Councilwoman to a Texas state Senator that is making great strides here. I expect an awesome filibuster from her, even if they eventually call another Special Session and pass this horrible crap.
They don't want any abortion, but neither do they want to pay to take care of and educate these "precious lives" they pretend to be concerned about!

We have a federal law allowing abortion (Roe v Wade, 1973). But states have a right to go around the federal law, right? How does that work? I thought federal law trumps state law, if there's a discrepancy in the two. So what good is the federal law, if state law trumps it? Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions and thanks, Bolo, for this important OP!

waste $ millions of taxpayer money to 'defend' their dumb-ass laws in the courts. Besides, these 'laws' throw red meat to their 'base'.
