ROBERTS: "Our nation has changed"

See, the problem with section 4 of the voting rights act is that it was drawn up back in the 1960s when there was a lot of institutional prejudice against black people in the former confederate states. The deep south.

What an antiquated view!

The deep south harboring racism??? What a wacky notion. Good thing we have changed so much.

(In one limited sense the SCOTUS ruling is correct. The old list of suspect states is outmoded. All 50 states should be in the same category of review since there's no telling when Republicans will take over a state legislature, at which point the state becomes de facto Alabama.)

Doesn't sound like America has changed all that much.

And they're perfectly willing to adopt the 180° opposite principle if it suits their needs.

To wit: the nation has changed since 1964, but the constitution should be interpreted as if it is still 1791.

It's everywhere - or as my daddy used to say - "I've been called a nigger everywhere in this country."

That said - the real issue is Blue States. He's right -the country has changed. I give you Philadelphia 2012 for review.

This time - they are going to get away with it - and it's not just PA . . . WI, MI - take your pick.

They know we are never going to win the Deep South in the next decade -

But time and again we knock their teeth out in Blue States . . . with large minority voting populations concentrated in the cities.

Mark my words - this is an attack on northern blacks and latinos.

And because it comes from Alito - he's punishing us.

You know, to the good old days of segregated schools, the Negro Baseball League, and lily-white legislatures.
