I suppose the trial would take place in Maryland's District Court, Northern Division if my placement of Fort Mead is correct. That would put the trial in Baltimore if I'm not mistaken.
Let us imagine that there would be great demonstrations in the streets with both those who support what Mr. Snowden has done out in equal force to those who think him a traitor and demand suitable punishment.
And what amazes me is how much this question transcends Party affiliation. While I suspect that most of those who would support Snowden's actions are Democrats there would also be a strong showing from Libertarians and a good number of old school Conservatives too. And opposite them would be a crowd made up mostly of Republicans but not without a strong showing from mainstream Democrats too.
So at least he has brought matters to a point. What we've all known from rumor is now open truth. And Party affilliation aside its more a matter of how sensitive one is to the notion of privacy and Constitutional guarantees to see which side of the issue one lands one.
This discussion is good for the country. Very good.

(2,068 posts)This is not a political issue - it is a criminal issue involving a traitor. The discussion is simple - he stole secrets and has given them to our enemy's.

(16,093 posts)He was charged under the Espionage Act...and the last time I checked the only enemies we had were the Taliban and Al Qaeda.
Russia, China, and even little Ecuador are mostly adversaries...because the US Government wouldn't be trading with enemies...and wouldn't owe a good percentage of its debt to an enemy nation, because that would show how stupid the US really is...
Just saying.

(5,937 posts)so much so that you can't extract which party has a majority on the pro or con. It's a rare instance indeed.

(34,845 posts)Those who think he stepped over the line are more content to let the justice system handle him. (Cue the Bradley Manning references. And no, I do not believe his treatment was justified.)
Much of the trial would likely be secret, however, not only because of national security secrets but because Snowden can't be trusted. He'd likely blurt out the name of a spy in China just to fuck everyone over.

So then I'm right about being wrong.
