General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have another question for the Zimmerman defenders
First, let me lay a foundation or factual predicate.
The fight occurred within feet of the condominium unit where Trayvon Martin was staying with his father and father's girlfriend.
Why would Trayvon, as Zimmerman's attorneys suggest, try to beat a man to death so close to home?
Did they expect him to go home, immediately after, and say "Hey, dad, I just killed this white guy"

(5,580 posts)I get what you are saying but its not a line of enquiry i would use.

(99,711 posts)It doesn't make a lot of sense to choose fists as weaponry in the first place, but I'm not going to do it where I can be easily apprehended.

(21,020 posts)most recently, there's Aaron Hernandez, accused of murder, who, if the charge is true, stupidly left the body of the man he killed...and the SUV rented in his name...less than a mile from his home.
Last year in a little town near my home, a guy murdered the mother of his children and hid her body in a cardboard box right in their own backyard.
People murder people in all sorts of places...including in their own homes.
Lurks Often
(5,455 posts)Based on the map presented in court and where the fight took place and where Martin's father lived, 2nd unit from the end, the ruler function on Google Maps shows the fight took place approximately 50 feet from the T where the 2 pedestrian footpaths meet. Using that as a basis, Martin was approximately 350 feet from the back of his father's condo.

SQUEE
(1,315 posts)Because all the graphics and maps I have seen put him at last 2 buildings away in the "back yard" are between buildings putting him a significantly further distance than within feet.
And I hold that Zimmerman should have stayed in his car, he had a terrible mind set for a concealed carrier and had atrocious situational awareness.

(9,766 posts)why didn't he just go inside? Jeantel testified that she wasn't worried because Trayvon told her he was in his dad's backyard. If that's true, how did he end up 2 units away?

It's a question the jury will grapple with. Like it or not.

(53,837 posts)I've never heard before that TM said that he was already home.
This doesn't sound factual.

(99,711 posts)I have also seen it suggested that Trayvon was running after him. I have also seen no evidence of that.

(53,837 posts)I've been following this case since the murder and I've never heard before that TM said that he was already home.
That doesn't sound factual.
All the reports I've ready over the months and during this trial have said he was on the phone with his friend "walking towards his house."

(9,766 posts)I can't find testimony transcripts anywhere though. I would imagine it will come up in the defense's presentation if I actually heard it correctly. It was difficult to understand what she was saying at times.

(61,935 posts)she dug in and said that his suggestion that that wasn't true was "real retarded"
I'm beginning to suspect that the O'Mara challanged her on that to draw attention to that part of the testimony.

(11,065 posts)where you live? I sure as shit wouldn't. Then they'd know where to find me.
I had some creep follow me from the bar I was working at several years ago. I had no idea he was following me, and thank God I stopped at the 7-11 before I went all the way home or the creep would have found out where I lived.
I also don't recall at any time that Rachel said that Trayvon told her that he was in his dad's backyard, and I just listened to her whole testimony. I believe what she said that he said was that he was "almost home" or "nearly home" or something to that effect. "Almost home" or "nearly home" can be several houses away or several streets away depending on what the speaker determines it to mean. She may have believed that what Trayvon meant was that he was as close as his dad's backyard or in his dad's backyard, but her testimony indicated he said something like "almost home" or "nearly home" not that he was in his dad's backyard.
