Yes, folks who would have believed it! The man we worked for to get elected is really a vindictive, hypocritical zealot, who abuses the Constitution and tramples on our rights for political gain! Bet he's planning a third term! Should have listened to Glenn Beck! (snark)
Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald tonight reacted to the new development today that federal prosecutors are charging NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden with espionage and other charges. He told MSNBCs Chris Hayes that its not surprising that the Obama administration would, once again, engage in severe overcharging when what Snowden did, as Greenwald argued, was not espionage in any real sense of the word.
(snip)
However, Greenwald argued the main problem is the extreme zealousness and overcharging the Obama administration has engaged in with whistleblowers, bashing their extreme excess and vindictive mentality towards anyone who attempts to make them just a little more transparent. He also accused Obama of hypocrisy, since there have been a number of leaks that have politically benefitted Obama, and none of them have been charged or indicted.

Sickens me how several years ago everyone up here was railing against Bush and the PATRIOT Act and the warrantless domestic spying but now will bend over backwards to defend Obama (who's doing WORSE than Bush) simply because there's a (D) after his name.

Where is this "worse than Bush" behavior?

(5,901 posts)Whoever sits in the Oval Office is an end user of information from the security state. How much they tell him is at their discretion. I think there are degrees of knowing. I think Cheney knew more than Bush. I think Bush knew more than Reagan. It's how close you are to TPTB. Obama's not close. Jimmy Carter wasn't close. Bill Clinton wasn't close. Notice a pattern?

Greenwald has been criticizing Obama's use of the Espionage Act ever since he started using it, years ago, why would anyone not expect him to criticize him for charging Snowden?
But my question assumes something that is questionable: that the attacks on Greenwald are about what he's saying. It is pretty clear that the attacks on Greenwald are about support for Obama. The only thing that matters about Greenwald is that he is criticizing Obama.
