HHS awards $32 million to help enroll children in Medicaid
By Sam Baker - 07/02/13 11:57 AM ET

The Health and Human Services Department awarded $32 million in grants Tuesday to help enroll children in Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

The funding came from part of President Obama's healthcare law and the latest CHIP reauthorization.

The grants will help promote enrollment outreach in schools, improve the application and enrollment process, and train community organizations about eligibility and the application process, HHS said in a release.

Sebelius said the push will help enroll people in new coverage options under the healthcare law, including its Medicaid expansion and new marketplaces for private insurance.

“We are drawing from successful children’s health coverage outreach and enrollment efforts to help promote enrollment this fall in Medicaid and the new Health Insurance Marketplace," she said.
