The hyperbole is getting thick.

President Obama is "incompetent," an embarrassed "tyrant," leader of the evil and dying "empire," etc.

Just because countries are using the lastest incident to jockey for position, that doesn't mean these countries are somehow more virtuous. In fact, many of them are among the worst human rights violators (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023112872)

Remember when many people were waving the fake travel document and snark by Ecuador's President Correa as the last word?

No. The president, Rafael Correa, said he was not considering Snowden's asylum request. In an interview with the Guardian, Correa said Snowden would have to reach Ecuadorean territory before the country would consider any asylum request. The US has cancelled Snowden's passport, and Correa said his government would not give Snowden an authorised travel document to extract himself from Moscow airport. "The right of asylum request is one thing, but helping someone travel from one country to another – Ecuador has never done this."

Ecuador Defends Domestic Surveillance

<...>

Cléver Jiménez, a member of Ecuador’s legislature who was sued in 2011 for libeling President Rafael Correa and was recently sentenced to 18 months in prison for the same offense, released a statement on Thursday criticizing the government for its involvement with Snowden and WikiLeaks in light of its own surveillance practices, calling them an “attack on civilian security and the human rights of Ecuadoreans.”

Jiménez called the situation with Snowden and Julian Assange, who has been living at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for over a year, a “smokescreen to distract the world and the country from the serious corruption of the government.”

Jiménez criticized Correa’s government for the documents published by BuzzFeed, finding the letter related to a possible drone deal to be most alarming.

“An alarming detail is that this last purchase is for the creation of drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, which are used for surveillance programs,” Jiménez said.

Here's my position: He is still the one of the best Presidents this country has ever had. Hands down.

Bush is spying on Americans: opponents and activist groups. The law can't
be changed to make that legal. The Republicans are trying to pull a fast one with this "law change" tactic by framing the illegal spying as warrantless spying on terrorists; therefore, the law is being changed to give Bush the authority to spy on terrorist. Spying on Americans was, is and will still be illegal. Bush committed crimeS by illegal spying on Americans and breaking existing FISA laws.

I'm sure all criminals would love to have a law passed that retroactively absolves them of their crimes.

I guess "the patriots" has special meaning to you? And what rights? The right to come on a non-Puke board and bash the President because nodding like a parrot with like-minded 'patriots' is boring?

And what Three Trillion? The three trillion the Pukes say they need to slash from the budget mainly from social programs and not from the defense budget or pork spending.

As well our rights that are enshrined and enumerated in our constitution then we are much further apart than I imagined.

2nd. If I am bashing Obama on here it should be easy to demonstrate that. Please don't conflate passionately arguing against an ill conceived, and illegal policy as an attack on the President, a man who I contributed time and money, and voted for twice, it is not only insulting, but it is factually untrue.

The 3 trillion, and counting, is what they are stealing from our SS.

So stop assuming, insulting, and snarking, your fellow DUers, so a real discussion may take place.

All this is is some mass hysteria caused by one guy saying 'it could happen'.

And HIS word is to be taken as gospel, apparently, by those who mistrust every single word and deed of the President.

The documents people keep talking about indicate what even Greenwald acknowledged: Individual data requests on U.S. citizens require a warrant, and the data has to be LIMITED by among other things, identity removal.

Someone needs to indicate the contrary, otherwise the hysterics seem more hysterical every day.

Oh, and do explain how the GOP hasn't seized on any illegality that can be linked to the Obama administration faster than you can say "impeach".

I stand by my position in opposition to the hysteria.

And didn't under Dubya/Shooter have more people with security clearances than we have ever in our history??? When with the updated technology it should be less complex???? And am I wrong or have we had Senators and Congressmen leaking classified information???? But somehow this is supposed to rest on the shoulders of this President???? Funny how all of a sudden when Dubya let every under-handed thing that could go on, happen. And President Obama must be Master of the Universe. And just how is the President supposed to just go in and stop measures that were put in place by previous predecessors without going through some of the same procedures it took to put them in place. And wasn't the collection of the information only to be used in cases where they had suspects that they were trying to get a tracking history on???? Maybe I was the last 20 years
