Flashback Obama: 'Not going to be scrambling jets' to get Snowden (Oops!)

* * *

Obama, who appeared concerned that the case would overshadow a three-country tour of Africa that he began in Senegal, also dismissed suggestions that the United States might try to intercept Snowden if he were allowed to depart Moscow by air.

"No, I'm not going to be scrambling jets to get a 29-year-old hacker," he told a news conference in Dakar. Snowden turned 30 last week.

It means they are acting as quickly as possible to get their aircraft airborne.

When a person says it, they can also mean it's time to act fast.

Aircraft tend to be sitting ducks while on the ground - easily destroyed. But they are much harder to stop once they are in the air. The practice of scrambling started in WWII before they had reliable radar. Often, pilots would have just minutes to get their aircraft into the air before the enemy aircraft arrived.

==

Back in the 1950's and early 60's, they didn't have satellites watching for enemy attack in the Coldwar. All we had was radar. So when USAF aircraft were ordered to ''scramble,'' that meant they had to get up in the air ASAP. Any wasted time could mean those planes would be destroyed on the ground.

I suppose what the President meant was that he wasn't going to go HairOnFire over Snowden. Appears so.

That was a lie and misleading. Why!

You are sneering at this tour~ When you post this...

Obama, who appeared concerned that the case would overshadow a three-country tour of Africa that he began in Senegal,

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (AP) — Teeming crowds and blaring horns are welcoming President Barack Obama to Tanzania's largest city, where the U.S. president's likeness is everywhere as he arrives on the last leg of his three-country tour of the African continent.

Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their two daughters touched down Monday afternoon in Dar es Salaam, where a marching band awaiting them on the tarmac danced and played as dozens waved U.S. and Tanzanian flags.

Hundreds of young people lined the streets wearing t-shirts and sarongs bearing images of Obama, forcing Obama's motorcade to slow at times as it sped along a main thoroughfare that's been permanently renamed "Barack Obama Drive" — a sign that the visit from America's first president of African descent has resonated deeply with Tanzania's people.

It was a wonderful beneficial tour with the Obamas in Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania, she.

The writers who wrote that Obama "appeared concern" that it would overshadow his 3 country tour in Africa, like so many in the corp media do their own spin on what they think is happening or what makes the Pres look bad.. but, they don't know shite.

thanks for the beautiful pics from Africa, she..

It must exist.

I believe Obama told them to do it. The countries involved are all refusing to confirm or deny US managed it. The US answer was just as weasel-speak. My assumption is based on what can be inferred. Your assertion is based on law, which could be produced if such law existed.

Here is what I have:

Bolivia's ambassador to the United Nations, Sacha Llorenti Soliz, said, "We have no doubt that it was an order from the White House. By no means should a diplomatic plane with the president be diverted from its route and forced to land in another country."

The White House declined to comment on the Bolivian allegations.
