Whats more American than competing in a hot dog eating contest on the Fourth of July?
To over 40,000 people on Coney Island this afternoon, nothing.
On the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues, they witnessed Joey Chestnut of San Jose, Calif. inhale a record 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes, which won him his seventh straight Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest championship.
He didnt do it without the help of his girlfriend Neslie, who stood in front of him and yelled at him to eat more.
On the womens side, Sonya Thomas, who weighs only 100 lbs. and is known as the Black Widow of competitive eating, downed almost 37 franks for the win.

(1,528 posts)Life is complicated enough. Sometimes you need to lighten up and don't take things to seriously.
This is one of those times.
Congratulations Joey.

(1,110 posts)or 'causing anyone to starve to death. Fact is that at most only 69 kids could have had a shitty meal had these hot dogs gone elsewhere. Even with the other contestants, it would hardly feed anyone for any length of time. It's a small drop in the bucket. Our issues with starving people has little to do with limits on food being available.
