Waving in the wind from a rear window, I automatically sneer to myself that there goes a republican.
Am I crazy? just asking..... Perhaps my thought is that the right has hi-jacked our flag..

And I fly it on holidays.

I guess that video WAS made by a rightwinger, or else somebody in grade school who could not figure out what an "auld aquaintance" was.
And it's "every heart beats true, under red white and blue"

(20,776 posts)Why have we never fought to get it back? Did we just simply say, "Oh damn, you are so mean, you can just keep it?" This flag belongs to all of us.

(8,515 posts)Why do we not at every convention not highlight; Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedys contribution to keeping our country safe. Democrats have done a very mediocre job in hailing Obamas performance in curtailing Terrorists activities..

There are other things which I will not mention, however if McCain was a dem. you would hear all sorts of info. on his military record. They have no fucking boundaries with anyone..

(20,606 posts)I remember that I live in a country, that despite some of it's faults, is still one of the greatest country in the world.
I don't disparage anyone who displays a flag.

(50,566 posts)We're the most aggressive country in the world, and we spend the most resources on our military by a huge factor, and therefore we lag in providing good public education, affordable college, healthcare, keeping up our infrastructure, making sure people don't die from hunger and preventable disease and the like. We rank high in obesity, illiteracy, gap between rich and poor, infant mortality, gun deaths, etc. Other countries have not let corporations completely take over their governments like we have.
Greatest? We could have been. But we squandered our chance.

(8,515 posts)Look at a lot of the countries in the ME.
There's China--no war there, not yet.
Mexico isn't exactly reticient. Neither is Haiti.
Nor many of the countries in Africa that are essentially at peace. Or regions in Europe. Iceland's had a bout of it. So has Catalonia.
If you consider Venezuela and Bolivia, Ecuador and Argentina, there's a pile of nationalism, some of it bordering on jingoism.
Only some nationalism gets panned. Other nationalisms seem to be applauded.

(2,424 posts)I didn't say it was bad, all of the time, in every situation.
I said it was a scary thing.
Nationalism can quickly evolve into "For the Fatherland".
I stand by what I wrote.

I usually fly the flag on the front of my house, but the pole was recently damaged by heavy winds.
I'm proud to be union and proud to be an American. Sneer all you want, it's one of your constitutional rights.
