http://www.nationofchange.org/grave-new-world-1373203115In my own malcontent civic organization, Veterans For Peace, weve always known we were being watched. We are, after all, against war. And were impolite enough about it to hold up signs.
Weve been monitored, infiltrated, entrapped, stung, eavesdropped, raided, arrested, and exiled far from important happenings.
And why not? Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Franz Kafka, and Ray Bradbury long ago explained how the system would work once those in authority got their act together and the technology to snoop on us all.
Needless to say, there are many other democracy-infatuated groups like ours that suffer similar spying and harassment. It makes little difference whos in power at the moment. Power is power, and those who hold it want to keep it.

I hadn't even thought of that happening to Feminist groups but it makes total sense

(2,049 posts)2. As a frequent visitor to Arlington West at the Santa Monica Pier on
weekends past, I salute you and your colleagues. One of the folks I vigilled with during the years of the Bush Junta at the Federal Building in Westwood was a VFP member and we always joked that our close proximity to the lions' den meant we stood a high chance of being surveilled. We even once had this bulky-looking Shwarzenegger-ish type come and stand on the sidewalk with us silently for an hour without saying a word and afterwards figured him for a Feebie. I and said VFP member approached this fellow and tried to engage him in conversation, but no dice. One of the creepier moments of that vigil.
