Amazing Young Chefs at White House Kids State Dinner!

On July 9th, fifty-four children and their parent/guardian (one pair from each of the 50 states, plus some of the U.S. Territories, D.C., and Puerto Rico) attended a Kids' "State Dinner" at the White House, hosted by Mrs. Obama. Each child (and their parents) submitted a healthy recipe as part of the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge. A selection of the winning healthy recipes were served.

The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge invited families to create an original lunchtime recipe that is healthy, affordable and delicious, and follows the nutritional guidelines of MyPlate. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges from the organizations that teamed up with Mrs. Obama on this initiative; Epicurious, the Department of Education and the Department of Agriculture.

Fifty-four young chefs, whose recipes were selected as winners of Epicurious' Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, visited the White House today for the second annual Kids' State Dinner, hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama in the State Dining Room.

When they arrived, White House chefs were busy in the kitchen whipping up some of the winning recipes. After hearing the First Lady speak, President Obama surprised everyone by stopping by to say hello. Singer Rachel Crow also made an appearance – some of the kids even got on stage to dance with her! . . .

from Perez Hilton.com: http://perezhilton.com/cocoperez/2013-07-09-michelle-obama-michael-kors-kids-state-dinner-white-house

FLOTUS's textured, sunshine yellow Michael Kors dress and lime green pumps set a citrus-y mood for the 54 tiny guests, who were given the go-ahead to eat with their hands!

That must've made their day!

And if MObama picked this outfit on purpose to match the large bowls of oranges and green apples that served as decor, it was a very good call.

We bet Amanda Bynes hated it, but, hey, you can't please everyone!

Hopefully our legislators find these types of programs worthy of impacting their legislative decisions when tasked to either cut food dollars for struggling families vs giving G.E. billions in tax subsidies...

Makenna’s winning entry was Bodacious Banana Muffins, a recipe she developed with the help of her mother and her grandmother, Suzie Warren of Knoxville. The secret, Hurd said, is to avoid using too much flour, which makes the muffins too dense.

Makenna and the other winners were invited to the White House, where some of their culinary creations were served at the Kids’ State Dinner. Makenna’s muffins made the menu, along with zucchini cornbread from Wyoming, mini-pizzas with veggies from Kansas, a veggie barley salad from Idaho and lettuce cups from Utah.

Hurd said she and Makenna will continue baking muffins so long as people continue to buy them. The muffin sales already have brought in $4,000 for the Down syndrome group’s annual buddy walk — proof, Hurd said, that anyone can make a difference.

“Not a business, not a corporation,” Hurd said. “Just mommy and mammaw and Makenna in the kitchen.”

Must be a slow summer news day, I suppose. At least it's a positive front page story instead of what ever crappy politics going on right now or some local crook in the city council or a street corner shooting.

When presidents bond with children. No matter which party they are from, they all have one thing in common: they all have children, and love kids! Sweet moments like these are great.

She wants to BAN McDonald's and take away kids simply because their parents took them out to a pizza party! She wants to brainwash our youth into becoming effeminate, meat-phobic, skinny, starving, weak, HIPPIES obsessed with all things NATURAL and HATING the process - oops sorry SCIENCE that makes food TASTE good even though those liberal elites won't say it's healthy

But wow, Michelle will leave the WH with a GREAT legacy to the First Lady position. May she continue to inspire the younger people for years to come.
