(82,383 posts)are based on federal jurisdiction which is different. State laws in Florida had a lot to do with this. There are 51 juridical systems in the U.S.

(3,577 posts)The Department of Justice has closely monitored the State of Florida's prosecution of the case against George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin murder since it began. Today, with the acquittal of George Zimmerman, it is time for the Department of Justice to act.
The most fundamental of civil rights the right to life was violated the night George Zimmerman stalked and then took the life of Trayvon Martin. We ask that the Department of Justice file civil rights charges against Mr. Zimmerman for this egregious violation.

(3,731 posts)the DoJ wouldn't even prosecute the crimes of the Bush Admin, makes him think that the DoJ will file civil rights charges against Zimmerman?

(3,731 posts)It sure didn't with the crimes of the Bush Admin., so, pardon me, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for the DoJ to file charges, after all, they're too busy busting Marijuana co-ops.
Sorry if I seem cynical, but after today, even though I called it right, I'm disheartened by the verdict.

(3,731 posts)but I've testified in enough Federal criminal trials to know that the defense planted enough reasonable doubt in the jury's mind.
Do I think that the jury reached the correct verdict based on the prosecutions case, yes, do I like it, no, but it is what it is.
