It wasn't post racial in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, or now, in 2013.
We seem hardly more evolved than we were in the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90, 00s.
Just because some wanted it to be so - in many ways for purely political motives - doesn't make it so.

(64,933 posts)How about the FUCKING laws that the NRA got passed in Florida that allowed the raging gun-nut to kill someone without any repercussion.
Yes. Go back to your fucking hole.

(2,693 posts)why was the NRA not brought into evidence, surely it would if we were not dealing with your particluar chosen psychosis.

(64,933 posts)If you can't see that it was the NRA spending billions of dollars to promote these "stand-your-ground" rules and FREE GUNS FOR EVERYONE, then you it is not really worth discussing with you.

Sure it not match up with DU groupthink, but lord how many repeated lies does it take to think it is other then just?
I not fathom, the breast beating just over the verdict.
Remedial civics class is something long overdue, since it apparently has not been taught in the last 40 years.

(1,763 posts)was that the judge basing his instructions on precedent? or his personal choice base on his reading of the case?
please explain why the jury had such specific instructions.. and why if the prosecution was so seemingly inept that this should be celebrated as "justice"
Also do you own a gun?

(64,933 posts)Do a quick search for Stand Your Ground on the National Rifle Associations website and the first video result features the story of a Florida man exonerated of murder charges in January 2012 under the States Stand Your Ground law. That videos segment is titled Hero of the Day.
The NRA lobbied for Stand Your Ground in the past and has yet to comment on the controversy surrounding the killing of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman, a case in which Floridas version of the law could play a pivotal role if it ever goes to trial.
The pro-gun group championed the passage of the original law in Florida back in 2004 and lobbied to pass similar legislation in other states, according to the Center for Public Integrity. In light of the recent controversy, the NRA has stalled its lobbying efforts in to pass the law in Alaska, according to Bloomberg News.
Stand Your Ground laws state that a person can use lethal force if that person feels at all threatened. Versions of the law have been passed in 25 states, but Floridas is considered to be the most aggressive.

(2,693 posts)that SYG was never a part of the trial, right?
Screw it keep listening to glen beck or whatever nutjob you are a fan of.
Just pop into reality every now and then so we know you are ok.
madinmaryland
(64,933 posts)the whole reason the trial happened was because of "SYG". Had that never been foisted on the state by the NRA and Glenn Beck and what ever other nutjobs you listen to, this whole fucking thing would never have happened.
Now maybe you need to take some reality pills before posting nonsense like that.

(2,693 posts)to even smirk at the relevant law in a televised open court? Fascinating.
Surely you find that as hard to believe as i do, but good night and hope you feel better on the morrow.

(82,383 posts)How is there reasonable doubt GZ should not have used deadly force?
Kid unarmed, GZ had called the cops and the cops were coming - he knew that. GZ has martial arts training. No blood or DNA on TM's hands.
GZ head cuts show at most a fight but not one that allowed for deadly force.
Riftaxe
(2,693 posts)Threat of bodily harm or death. The prosecution should have made a hell of a better case, but honestly they were coasting, I suspect since the trial was opened via press conference instead of the normal jury that played a lot into it and the decision by the prosecution to not work at the charges explains the outcome.

(2,693 posts)So i will just agree to differ.
I still like 90% of your posts if it helps, we just disagree on this one.
Lord who knows how i would come out on a Democratic purity test, but more relevant have you voted for the same candidates i have for the last 40 years? Purity tests are an exercise in futility and a condemnation of intelligence.
madinmaryland
(64,933 posts)NRA has created absurd laws such as the "stand your ground" law in Florida, and that it is these laws that allowed George Zimmerman to murder another human being.
Please explain how you differ with me on this. It is NOT about what the jurors, prosecutors, or the judge did in this case. It is about what the NRA has done to this country. (And I suppose I should include the corporate gun manufacturers.)
Riftaxe
(2,693 posts)nor admit that the laws are silly. That the laws can be abused, i think is pretty self evident, exactly how would you change the laws in florida?
As far as the NRA, I view them as politically wrong, but appreciate them for the good they do in safety education, i would never join them since we are completely opposed politically.
As far as the NRA being such a heavy political power, i would think it is hardly true at best.
If we skip to the heart of it, this is more likely a rural thing vs urban, i could never condone a kitty genovese attitude, that is beyond my understanding, yet is so inbred into urbanites that it makes them so odious. Nor do i understand moving into a new community and not joining EMS or the fire department.
madinmaryland
(64,933 posts)You just admitted in your first paragraph that it is quite evident that the law, that law being the "stand your ground" law can be easily abused. OBVIOUSLY, the easiest way would be to revoke the law and return to the law that worked very well for more that two hundred years. I think that is called the Castle Doctrine.
I am glad you consider the NRA politically wrong, but you should just consider them wrong altogether. You should also know that the NRA is one of the biggest political players out there, right up there with KKK Rove's group and the Koch brothers. That is a fact.
Nice try with your last paragraph. Very sad situation, but for you to pull that sort of bullshit, is very reminiscent of a lot gungeonites that are no longer at DU.
BTW, what the fuck does this mean: " Nor do i understand moving into a new community and not joining EMS or the fire department."
treestar
(82,383 posts)Which was indeed confusing. As finders of fact, even so, I criticize this jury. They had to find it was beyond a reasonable doubt that GZ should not have used deadly force. Maybe they erred in favor of GZ in a close case due to the instructions. Still his story is full of holes and not all that credible.
The prosecution may not have wanted to try the case - only public pressure made them do it.
