(33,982 posts)Police are allowed to make some political statements, but on actual job performance, the FBI has found numerous civil rights violations, etc. Our police are particularly brutal at times. They are actually banned from carrying 4-DCell mag flashlights, because they used to beat people with them.
Mixed record, probably mostly good, but some VERY bad.

(1,156 posts)Someone who advocates in uniform may not be discharged but should receive some form of UCMJ punishment just as this woman should have if she was advocating as a representative of the Seattle PD.

(1,156 posts)I'm not particularly bothered...
I'm just commenting on how a professional would act vs. how this woman did if it has been presented accurately.

(2,730 posts)not a Sanford police officer. She works for the City of Seattle, which is mostly a liberal area. What she did isn't reflective of anybody in the Seattle area. If she doesn't agree with the Sanford police, she has a right to express it. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the citizens in that area support her and the police in Seattle. The Sanford Police can learn something about community support.
Pelican
(1,156 posts)If she wants to express her support, let her do it without a PD patch...

(1,156 posts)They have official sanction by the military to wear their uniforms.
Up until that point they would/ should have gotten in trouble.
If the Chief of Police gives official permission and says that the stated position of his department is that they support Martin over Zimmerman then she can go nuts.
That probably didn't happen, even in Seattle.
Scuba
(53,475 posts)Please cite your evidence that she's doing more than eating skittles in uniform.
Pelican
(1,156 posts)Maybe she is just standing there. I'm talking about the context in which it was delivered as she was protesting in uniform. My evidence is that no police chief in America would be that stupid.
If it she wasn't protesting or she is just having a snack then so what and its just a photo with poor context.
Scuba

(1,156 posts)... and yes it would be inappropriate for her to protest in uniform. This issue or any other.

(13,409 posts)Police have no place advocating for murder victims, they're ONLY allowed to advocate for the murderers. If you were any more transparent, you'd need to wear a bell to prevent people from running into you.

(13,409 posts)She can do that whenever the fuck she wants. Even if it hurts the feelings of idiotic, racist Zimmerman supporters everywhere. So sorry you're hurt by that.
you don't pay her salary and that is not the Army. I don't mind my local police taking a stand on murderers that are a danger to my community and many of them look like Trayvon. If he did that here, the verdict would be different. I can guarantee you, so just because he got off there doesn't mean everybody would have voted the same way. If he was here and I was on the jury, Zimmerman would be going to prison.
Pelican
(1,156 posts)... that the media fed you.
How would you feel if you only knew what the jury knew and were ethical enough to stick to the law?
It's a different world...
OJ was innocent? Let me know your answer and I will answer your question. I think that will be fair don't you?

(9,214 posts)are viewing the picture in a false light. They do sell thousands(millions?) of bags of Skittles every day, very possible Skittles are her favorite.
Make assumptions much? You are accepting what the OP is assuming, so that means you are secondhand assuming. Very slim and circumstantial evidence you are basing a trial and conviction on.

(9,214 posts)The OP says:
First, I don't even know if the picture was taken at a rally for Martin, do you?
Second, why does anyone get the impression she is supporting Martin and not just getting ready for a snack?
Third, is she on duty or off?
Fourth, I think everyone should show support for innocent people that are gunned down in cold blood, do you?

(3,508 posts)I don't want to post the link, because I don't want to make it easy for people trying to make life difficult for her.
So you don't have to take my word for it, just give me the benefit of the doubt that I'm not trying to imply that she put on her uniform off the clock to attend a rally. I felt just posting the pic without commentary was powerful enough to stand on it's own.

__Maybe__ I would even agree for any police officer in Florida, but certainly not for a Seattle police officer.

(11,257 posts)Sanford POs are involved in the case and must show some neutrality. Florida law enforcement has some overall involvement as well. Seattle POs have nothing to do with this case.

(3,508 posts)I'm so intrigued by her I decided to do some more digging, and found this interesting article. Talks of her difficulties with racism and sexism while in training, and some of her awards and laudable work with the community.
"As a police officer Detective Cookie has experienced some of her proudest moments. She was a body guard to Rosa Parks when the civil rights leader spoke at Garfield High School. And I was one of the Seattle Police Officers on security detail for the inauguration of President and First Lady Obama. I had tears running down my eyes. I got a beautiful gold badge. This is something I will cherish for my whole life.
