He was murdered in Mississippi with two other young men - white: Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman. All three were there to get people to register to vote.

To include Chaney only on this list is to belittle the murder of Schwerner and Goodman.

An oversight perhaps, headlines always face space limitations, so it is quite reasonable that not every victim's name be included. Racism, however, implies intent, and the headline is for an article exposing our nation's history of racial violence -- not condoning it.

Chaney would have been murdered regardless of his race, as were his two white friends. They were murdered because they ventured into KKK territory to register blacks to vote.
