LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Little Rock police say a suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting at 12th Street and Jefferson Street.
Sgt. Cassandra Davis with Little Rock police say they were trying to stop a stolen black SUV when the suspect got out and ran.
Davis says there was some kind of altercation between the suspect and officers, and police say they thought the suspect had a weapon and at least one officer fired, killing the suspect.
Davis says she doesn't know if the suspect was in fact armed, who he is, or how many officer fired.
THV 11 News' photojournalist is on the scene says people are starting to gather, yelling things like "Trayvon Martin" and spitting on people.

(3,731 posts)It sounds like he got into a scuffle with police, and they may have made an wrong assumption.
I'll wait for a more detailed report.

(18,115 posts)The "altercation" must have happened when they caught up to him. We'll no doubt learn more. But, we know he was unarmed, fled and is now dead.

(3,731 posts)Today's police forces are far too militarized and cops resort to lethal force far too often now, back in my days as a LEO, I would never think of shooting a suspect unless I was 100% sure I was in imminent danger of great bodily harm or death.
I thank my lucky stars that during my career, I never had to shoot another human being, the only shooting I had to do, besides my annual qualification, were wounded deer, and a couple of bears that were threatening humans.
We really need to get the police forces de-militarized and back to what they originally were, trusted beat cops there for the public.
Sorry for the rant, I just can't believe how LE has evolved since my days as an FLEO.

(17,087 posts)Has nothing to do with Trayvon or protests about the verdict, but is just false equivalency in the face of perceived injustice. Bad laws make it harder for police to do their jobs.
