Cuomo Bill Bans Smoking At Playgrounds (if anyone under 12 is around)

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM-TV) New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed sixty new laws on Friday including one that bans smoking at outdoor playgrounds when children are present.

The ban is in effect from sunrise to sunset when anyone under twelve years old is there.

The aim is to protect children from secondhand smoke.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, secondhand smoke can cause respiratory infections, frequent and severe asthma attacks as well as a greater risk for infant death syndrome.

People at one Elmira’s Grove Street Park agree with the Governor's law, saying the benefits outweigh the risks. Still, not everyone agreed.

“I think outside they shouldn't ban that. They are going to have a lot of people mad at them,” said Shani Turner. A lot of people especially in Elmira smoke cigarettes. Even if we are at a park, it’s fresh air. It's not like the smoke is going into their face.”

As one prohi scheme begins to fail (marijuana), another (tobacco) is in line to replace it. But don't think any if the corruption, waste, counter productivity and abuse of police powers will go away.

New boss? Same as old boss.

Should parents move the kids away to protect them? Should the courteous smokers move down wind? Do kids have a right to play without smoke? Does the adult smokers rights supersede the childrens rights? Is it ok since there are plenty of other pollutants in the air? Should children be required to wear gas masks while out in public?

Fuck this shit ...there's better fish to fry.
