K&R is you agree this needs to be investigated by Congress.
Fox News warns Al-Qaeda could hack your car & crash it
By David Edwards
Tuesday, July 16, 2013 14:57 EDT
Fox News on Tuesday advised viewers to revert to vehicles from the 1960s or even a horse and buggy because Al-Qaeda terrorists could take over the computer in their car and make it crash.
In a segment titled Al Qaeda Behind the Wheel: How Terrorists Could Crash Your Car, cyberterrorism analyst Morgan Wright said that it was a fact that you can take control of a car through systems like General Motors OnStar.
My concern is when they not only just hack the car, they hack the systems that control these cars or have access to them, Wright noted. A lot of people say thats far fetched, but one of my examples, you know, on Sept. 10th, 2001, we thought it was far fetched to fly four airplanes into a building, never thought it could happen. So, never say never.

Reportedly Richard Clark thinks this may be what happened as well, as descriibed in this HuffPo article on June 24th.

(19,326 posts)I never claimed that "FOX SAID Hastings WAS assassinated".
Although, you may wish to peruse the HuffPo report, as that IS more
directy on point, to the Hastings murder ... ah ... I mean "accident".

THe other side wants to shut down any discussion of possible Constitutional violations of Booz-Allen-NSA-Clapper and shut down any discussion of possible political assassinations of pesky investigative journalists, thinking that ignorance is bliss. They favor the strong, tough authoritarian state, the biggest bully on the block to take good care of them.
zappaman
(20,606 posts)I thought this was about a news anchor "inadvertently suggesting Michael Hastings was assassinated."
I see now that no such thing was suggested inadvertently or otherwise.

(20,606 posts)since I have never said I hate whistleblowers, investigative journalists, or protesters.
Not here and not in real life, since I don't hate them...at all.
But I will admit I don't like when someone just makes up an OP title to reflect their own thoughts and then try and defend it by making assertions about me or just trying desperately to change the subject.

an open-minded discussion. Now if he had said the same statement about George Bush, I am betting this thread would read a lot different. Situational ethics.

but character assassinations and ridicule. To me having an "open mind" means willing to listen to both sides w/o resorting to logical fallacies.

70. You should read the book, "The Authoritarians". I think you would find it
enlightening.
I would like to have a decent conversation about what r. Sirota had to say, but this thread is a group-grop intended only to gang up and ridicule the author and ignore the subject. Ad hominem.

149. Snowden did make YOU "aware of anything that we didnt know was already happening" because you have
your finger in your ears and your eyes closed. You have no evidence that Snowden delivered anything to anyone. Your lies are only attempts to cover up any possible wrong doing by the authoritarian state that, apparently you worship. Heaven save us from those that have sold their souls to the authoritarian state.

133. The authoritarian apologists have nothing. They resort to attempts at bullying by name calling.
Hate to tell them that open-minded people are beyond being intimidated by name-calling.
Those that want to use bully tactics to shut down discussion about illegal behavior of our government are conservatives and have no business in our party.

It's called "connecting the dots" as I see them.
I made NO false claim, as it's clearly conjecture, not a statement of fact.

Did not know the investigation had uncovered that. Could you link please?
And yes, if you press hard on the pedal on the right hand side of the floor(it's called an accelerator), you can make the vehicle go fast.
Cars do burst into flames since sometimes in crashes a spark will ignite what is called "gasoline" thus creating a fire and sometimes an explosion.
You can look it up if you'd like.
Yes...what were you thinking?

(19,326 posts)Clarke (Former U.S. National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism said, "There is reason to believe that intelligence agencies for major powers" -- including the United States -- know how to remotely seize control of a car.
"What has been revealed as a result of some research at universities is that it's relatively easy to hack your way into the control system of a car, and to do such things as cause acceleration when the driver doesn't want acceleration, to throw on the brakes when the driver doesn't want the brakes on, to launch an air bag," Clarke told The Huffington Post. "You can do some really highly destructive things now, through hacking a car, and it's not that hard."

(14,459 posts)I see some naysaying here, but it's ironic that Faux Noise inadvertently told us what happened in the framework of "Al-Qaeda."
Even more interesting since they cremated Hasting's body without permission and are not releasing info to FOIA requests.
BTW, I assumed they did it some other way, but this casts a vote toward the hacked car....gotta love what "safe" new technology brings us.
