RI governor vetoes 'Choose Life' license plate
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Rhode Island's governor has vetoed legislation to authorize a "Choose Life" license plate that would have raised money for a Christian crisis pregnancy center that opposes abortion.
Democratic Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) made the move Tuesday, saying it's inappropriate to use state license plates to raise money for a religious organization.
Lawmakers approved the plate earlier this month.
Half of the $40 cost of the plate would have gone to CareNet, a faith-based crisis pregnancy center in Providence. Supporters said the proceeds could have reduced abortions.
Abortion rights supporters had urged Chafee to veto the bill.

(9,126 posts)You reference that little slip of paper about something called the separation of church and state. Keep religion out of fucking politics! They can't be patriots and want religious rule--make them choose publicly. Allowing this reinterpretation of the Constitution just like their reinterpretation of the Bible has very dire consequences. Now is the time to push back against the nutters. Everyone thinks they are mainstream, but they're NOT. They're just infecting our government and our schools with their insane Bronze-age worldview.
Thanks Rhode Island!

(46,347 posts)It's been documented elsewhere, they call themselves "crisis pregnancy centers," what they really are is places that lure in pregnant women and then preach to them with all sorts of scare tactics.

(16,856 posts)They take advantage of women at a difficult time and play on their emotions. Typical cult behavior. A lot of them are in the baby-selling business, too.

(12,287 posts)the state has no business collecting money for a religious organization. Let them make frames for the license plates at their own costs and sell them for themselves...the state should not.
