The Bank of Happiness in Estonia (this is precisely what Wishadoo should be used for!!!)

We often complain that other countries are doing simple, effective, humane things as communities, and why don't we do it here? Well, I created Wishadoo! years ago so that kindness could indeed become a currency.

It was never intended to be solely about raising money for critical needs, though given the state of things, that is how it has evolved, at least here within the DU Community.

There are so many kindnesses we could share in myriad ways -- with those in our actual physical communities, as well as our online friends. There's even an activity point system that I have yet to activate that could, literally, be used as currency as the community grows to include more businesses, etc.

I sooooooo wish more of you would check it out and help me brainstorm ways to make it even more effective for us to come together in true community via the tools there, as we continue to interact here.

BTW, there will be another "Help a DUer" OP soon, as several have contacted me, and we're getting it set up now.

At Estonia's Bank Of Happiness, Kindness Is The Currency - NPR

Estonia's capital, Tallinn, is considered one of the world's leading "smart" cities, where the government and businesses alike rely heavily on computer technology.

But one group in the Estonian capital is using the Internet for something completely different: an online forum that markets good deeds.

<snip>

"But a little bit later, I thought, 'Wow, Bank of Happiness is perfect for this economic crisis and a lot of people are unemployed and they can use our bank,' " she adds.

So how does it work? It's simple: You register using your real name and post what you are offering or what your need is, as long as it doesn't involve cash or products.
